What is LBW?

I know it means lean body weight but some people seem to calculate it by taking total body weight and subtracting fat mass to give LBW. Eg "I am 200 lbs and I have 30% bf therefore my LBW is 140lbs." But doesn't that remainder also include blood, fluids, bone etc not just true LBW??

Eg, when we work out protein requirements should we be using muscle mass only or do we calculate it on every body tissue apart from the fat mass?

    It does include everything that is not fat.

    But yes, you should be basing your protien level on "everything not fat". If you based it on actual muscle, you'd be eating too little.
