Elliptical Trainer calories burned?

I'm just wondering if this seems correct...
I use the elliptical at the gym for 45 minutes, on the machine it says I've burned around 300-400. I know people suggest never to read much into what the machine says because it can overestimate how much you really burned. Though when I track it on MFP it says 45 minutes is over 600 burned, which I think it is really over doing it.
I'm not sure how to go about getting accurate information on how much Ive burned (or around how much). I don't have a heart rate monitor, other than what is on the machine itself.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Honestly, if you were really exerting yourself, it's safe to use around 6 cals per minute.0
