Or do you let them rest? Do you pick up with the fitness the next day, or do you just choose to do Yoga or something?

Do you mean painfully sore or the pleasant soreness you get after a good workout? If it's mild stiffness or soreness it's often beneficial to get moving, if it's acute pain take a rest.

My personal approach is to try and alternate activities (eg weights every 2nd day) to allow sufficient recovery.

I do not get sore muscles now anymore as hard as I train ( the next day type of soreness). I did get them sore only in like first 3 weeks. Back then I just pushed through it. But if you are past that newbies soreness phase and still get them sore you probably should let them recover before working them again, you would not want to over train.

Like the painful soreness you get after working out muscles you havent worked out hard with for a while.. (Being out of shape so to speak) and picking up day 1 of a work out. with that being said, i like to workout with sore muscles to an extent, because while i work them out they dont feel as sore... until im done....

but i was wondering how others approach it, or if i should just let it rest.

    Hi!

Are you doing isolated muscle exercises? If so, target difference muscle groups everyday (ex. Monday = shoulders, biceps, triceps. Tuesday = quads, calves and butt. Etc...) If you are doing exercises which include various muscle groups, then take a rest day. Definitely. The soreness is your muscle repairing and rebuilding. If you are new to exercise (or that type) it will get better as you progress.

Ahh that all depends on what sort of soreness I feel.

If it is a lactic acid after-effect sort of soreness, then I will train through that, albeit I will not suddenly go out and do an all out sprint down the road, that would be asking for trouble on the old muscle-pull front. However, if it is a sharp stabbing sort of pain, I will stay where I am and see what transpired over the day and watch if it gets any worse.

Get back in the gym and work. Just make sure to warm up properly and then adjust the weights accordingly. If you can get out of bed you can get to the gym.

People are way too soft when it comes to training IMO. If I take more than 8-9days off training I'm going to be brutally sore when I get back in the gym. My muscles haven't done anything taxing in 8-9days. I'm going to be in bits but you get on with it. Just warm up and see what weights you can do. No biggie if they are less. As long as you work hard that is all that matters and as long as the weights progress over time.
