I've always been small but I've put on about 12 pounds over a couple years. Being small, that 12 pounds really shows. I still wear a size xsmall-small but I really want to get at least some of this weight back off. It's a struggle, though, when you're already petite. Does anyone have any tips?

East less calories than you burn. Figure out your BMR, add in activity, then reduce by 10% and eat that number of calories. You can plug your goals into MFP and use that as a place to start. Or, there are several calculators on line like Scooby, Fat2FitRadio, FitnessFrog and IIFYM.

Depends on current weight and goal weight. If your goal weight is at a healthy point ... eat at a reasonable deficit, be sure to hit your protein needs, strength train to maintain lean body mass. If your goal weight is too low ... reassess it, pick a healthy goal, then either do the same thing as above or work on body recomp.

Keep at it, don't lose hope, stay strong.

I'm a small petite gal as well, and I completely understand. Being small also means that the extra weight will come off very slowly and that may cause you to get discouraged, don't. Also, something you might want to consider, as small people we are at the perfect size to start toning and defining those hidden muscles.

I've only been on MFP for a month and lost 3lbs by eating at a deficit, and adding in a balance of strength training and cardio to my exercise routine. I've also lost about an inch in my waist, hips, thighs, and arms in the time period.
