hi. My name is Jessica. I have been struggling with weight loss pretty much my entire life. I started this leg of my journey (the only time I've been successful) in October of 2014. As of this morning I've lost 35.5 pounds. I was writing everything down in a little notebook I carried around with me because I'd tried apps like this and I didn't stay consistent. But now that I've been logging for a few months and it's become habit I am ditching the book for the app once again. I am struggling mentally though, I want this so much with every fiber of my being. For so many reasons I am motivated. But some days it is so hard I almost feel like giving up. My one big question is. To people who have gotten to their goal weight or are close. I know everyone probably still has bad days but does the overall struggle ease up or is it going to be full on war for the rest of my life?

Some days it's definitely difficult! All of us can empathize with that.

Maintaining your goal weight is not necessarily a struggle but you can't ever stop paying at least a little attention to it. I read an article that really hit home for me a few weeks ago. It compared maintaining weight loss to walking down an up escalator. The moment you stop moving, you're going back up again. Once you're at goal, weighing yourself every day helps you to realize when your weight is creeping up again so you can catch it before it gets out of hand.

As I've gotten older and my motivators have moved from being popular, having a boyfriend etc. to being healthy for my family, being able to DO things with my family I've come to a more clear understanding of my 'condition' and the fact that it's not going to happen over night nor is it going to all just be fixed as soon as I loose the weight. I know I will always have to think about it but sometimes it's just SOOO dang hard. I really like your metaphor it speaks to me greatly. I would think that where I am right now is more like walking up and escalator that is going down. If I don't keep walking up I'll just sink down (or back into old ways) once I drop the weight my goals shift and that's when the escalator starts moving up and I move down. Going down stairs it much easier for me then going up them. Your post gives me hope! Thank you!
