I am thinking of using Slim Fast to help me lose weight. How does this work? I mean I know I have to eat regular food too and get at least 1200 calories a day so just wondering how someone supplements their intake with the Slim Fast.

Thanks.

Essentially it is a means of extreme calorie restriction. And those things are full of all sorts of crap. You would be better off with real food.

Why do you want to use Slim Fast? You can achieve the same results without buying expensive products by just using the calorie tracker. If you want to make meal replacement drinks try doing a green smoothie for breakfast or lunch with lots of veggies like baby spinach, cucumber, etc, some fruit (fresh or frozen)...add yogurt, almond or coconut milk (or skim or 2% cows milk), some protein powder probably more filling, better tasting, and less money.

Using liquid meal replacements teach you nothing about how to eat in portions or correctly. Unless you plan to have the Slim fast MRP for a meal for life, there's no need to bother to start.
Any "program" works with a calorie deficit. One can eat in a calorie deficit for free. No extra programs to pay for.

I usually have a Slimfast shake for breakfast. I blend the (chocolate) powder with skim milk, a banana, and a Tbsp of peanut butter (and ice!). This is usually enough to keep me going until lunch. Honestly, the main reason I have Slimfast for breakfast is because I think it's yummy and it's easy to take on the go; I'm not sure I would personally follow the suggested Slimfast diet (replacing 2 meals a day with a Slimfast product).

Yea - actually I have no issue with the concept of a nutrient-dense liquid breakfast that you can consume on-the-go. But twice a day is not a good idea.

I think the two comments above mine have nailed it. Slimfast can be a convenient solution to being in a hurry or not having access to anything else. (We live on the Kansas side of Kansas City and I actually have some in our bunker/saferoom in the basement, LOL). But it probably would take an EF3 and me trapped down there for a couple days to get me drinking it. I'm not crazy about the taste.

If it's still the slimfast 3-2-1 diet, it's three 100 calorie snack bars, two 200 callorie shakes (or meal replacement bars, they have both) and one 500 calorie dinner (food of your choice). It's basically a 1200 calorie diet where you only have to plan for 500 calories. I did it for a couple months a few years ago. I ended up feeling very....not good. I lost weight, but I was tired all the time and I felt sick. It was basically very lacking in iron and other nutrients.

Plus, for the first time ever in my life, I got completely sick and tired of chocolate ANYTHING. I found it boring, and eventually I was like "screw this" and I gave up entirely - and gained all the weight back :\

So I wouldn't recommend it, to be honest.

During the week I've been having a slim fast shake for lunch. I actually enjoy the taste. I've lost some weight. But my typical day is like this.

Breakfast - Josephs Flax Seed Pita Bread with natural peanut butter
    - Mid morning - Greek Yogurt

Lunch - Slim Fast - I switch up flavors every other day so it doesn't get old

Dinner I use the vegetti and make veggie pastas and make a light sauce with very small amount of low sodium chicken broth and/or beef broth, diced tomatoes. Spinach, kale, mushrooms etc and a dash of hotsauce. Throw a veggie burger on top and im good to go.

Shirataki noodles are awesome for my sauce too and on Fridays i like to make a low cal - white wine sauce.

I don't typically eat any meats during the week. I save it for the weekends. Where I now only eat grassfed meats from the local farmer in which I fix my portion to not eat as much.

So far so good and the weight is coming off!! Plus vigorous exercise during the week helps also.
