Hi all. I am still trying to lose weight even though I am at a healthy weight- I am not yet at my target weight. I was just wondering how many days of overeating calories it would take to gain weight as today, and yesterday I have binged, and gone over my calories by quite a bit, and I really don't want to gain, hence why tomorrow I am back to eating 1615 calories again.... Everyone does this from time to time right? I usually do stick to my calories it is just hard sometimes...

One pound for 3500 calories over your TDEE.

You can gain weight in the same day. The type of weight will usually be water. Fat weight is gained when one is consistently eating more calories than they need for a period of time.

The human body is an amazing machine and likes to maintain...the human body does not like to lose weight and doesn't like to gain weight and will make adjustments as necessary to compensate for decreases or increases in energy consumption.

To override your amazing body's ability to do this requires consistently uner-eating to lose weight and over-eating to gain weight. You do not put on fat overnight or after a couple days or whatever...even if you went over 3500 calories over maintenance. There is no magic number I can give you in RE to "how long"...just that it takes consistently doing one or the other to override your body's natural tendencies and abilities.

I don't know why so many people think that you gain no weight until you gain a pound. There are such things as fractions of pounds, you know. It's not 0 or 3500 calories. If you eat 1750 calories over maintenance, you'll gain half a pound.

So, how long does it take you to gain weight? Depends how much you eat.

Well, I said one pound for 3500 calories. So yeah, 1/10th of a pound for 350 calories, but I'm sure people can do basic math.

Thank you, well I don't plan to be consistent with overeating so I'll ignore the scales for a few days while I am getting back on track.

But even then, you're not going to put on fat right away. You're not going to put on 1 Lb of fat if you have a day that you go over your calorie goal by 3500...you will most definitely put on water, but not fat...the human body is amazingly adaptable, particularly where energy is concerned.
