Binge Triggers

Is it possible to have a food trigger a binge? You've been doing well all week and you decide to eat a piece of momma's pound cake. Then you think having a scoop of ice cream wont hurt. Then you "taste" a donut and before you know it, you totally blew your goals for the day. Has this happened?

Yes! Last weekend my husband brought home some homemade cookies that a coworker had made. I thought I could eat just one. That just one turned into 6.

What you describe is exactly why I ended up having to lose over 100 pounds. So yeah, I get it. I could have written this scene from the 1980 Dom DeLuise movie, "Fatso".

Pasta is my binge food! Put a bowl of spaghetti or alfredo in front of me and I will eat all of it not a problem!

I just don't know what to do other than eliminating occasional treats. Then I'll feel restricted and tempted and end up binging anyway.

Have you tried including these foods into your daily meals? It would help a lot to not deny yourself these foods. Have small servings every once in a while. That way you won't feel so tempted when you're in front of these foods, because it's already part of your everyday life anyways.

My fall was Hot cheetos and Coke... Now I include it into my meals every once in a while... I don't binge on that anymore. I can actually have a serving of the cheetos, or just ONE can of regular coke. Not like before, I could drink several cokes and eat the huge bag of Hot cheetos in one sitting.

Learn portion control now that you're beginning. Don't try to be perfect during the week, just to fall on the weekend. Pre-log those kinds of foods into your day. Then this way you can enjoy it throughout the week, and you still stay within your daily calories.

Eating certain foods at certain times would do it for me (cereal after dinner is a no-no).
Severe restriction causes binge eating for me.
Boredom eating is a big one.

Planning ahead goes a long way for preventing binge eating.

Pinterest has tons of good ideas . I found one the other day of using non fat greek yogurt mixed with sugar free orange jello and you put it in cupcake wrappers freeze it and eat with fat free cool whip

Alcohol is a food binge trigger for me. Two drinks almost always leads to French fries or nachos.

This x1000. God forbid I leave a bar in a bad mood, I'll end up binging on something truly heinous like White Castle.
