This is just me celebrating the solution to my sudden 1#/week weight gain.

Spend a YEAR gaining a pound a week and not knowing why. Took out my Mirena (TMI, sorry.) in January and have lost a 6 lbs since then without needing to change very much else.

Even though I don't have contact dermatitis from silicone, it turns out there's another possible problem called ASIA, which is pretty much an autoimmune response to silicone. I put it together based on my eyeballs steady refusal to work with silicone contacts. Once I realized that the Mirena was ALSO silicone and releasing silicone based oils into my body, I started reading up on possible reactions linking the contact problem with the Mirena problem and found out about ASIA. I got rid of the Mirena and instantly, my energy levels improved. I stopped sleeping 15 hours a day and went back to my normal 6 hours a night. My constant nausea vanished and I stopped craving fatty foods and naps. And now I'm steadily losing the 1#/week that I gained at about the same rate.

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to have troubleshot my own body and figured out the solution to a problem without freaking or beating myself up too much.

I still need to lose 20-30 lbs, but that's something I've done before, and I'm confident that it will happen again. I have discipline and once the mystery symptoms were solved, I'm feeling pretty certain that just eating what I naturally LIKE and working out in ways I usually ENJOY will take care of the rest.

SO. RELIEVED.
