How long to wait to workout after eating?

I'm in the process of moving my workouts from morning time to night time. I'm trying to workout when I get home from work around 6:00 but I can see times where it might be later, possibly after dinner.

How long should you wait to workout after eating dinner? It is probably going to be around 10:00 or 11:00 before I get to bed if that makes any difference.

Thanks

I think it's a matter of preference... some people don't like to work out right after they eat because it makes them feel like puking. But it doesn't bother me. I usually eat right before I go to the gym, but that's because I go in the mornings.

I usually wait at least 30 - 60 minutes after eating. I find then I am comfortable during the workout and don't feel like puking.

It depends on the meal. If it's a dense energy bar then I can get away with ~30 minutes. If it's a whole traditional meal then I won't go less than an hour.

You'll have to just try and see what works for you. I used to wait, because I've seen so many people recommend it on here. But one evening I randomly decided to go for a run shortly after dinner and it didn't bug me at all. Now my weekday runs are all typically after dinner, before I put the kids to bed. Good luck!

Meal timing is irrelevant and does not have any effect on your body composition!! Eat whenever you wish even if it's right before you sleep! Of Course as long as it meets your caloric and macronutrients goals!

I usually wait an hour before starting up any heavy cardio to avoid cramping and feeling sick. Most people need to give their stomachs that long so that it doesn't need the highly oxegenated blood for running initial digestion that their muscles are going to need for working out. It won't affect body composition, but it can affect the quality of your workouts. You'll stick to it for far shorter if you feel like you're about to vomit the whole time.

I can usually workout immediately after eating but feel best after about one hour, or when the food has just cleared my stomach.

Jogging or high impact can leave me feeling heavy and unsettled if I've just eaten a large meal.

I am doing Insanity at the moment and in the booklet that came with the workout it was written to workout at least 3 hours after eating.

From personal experience I feel discomfort if I workout after 2 hours or less after eating.

    Good luck!

Its about how your body feels. When im done with my workout, i just take my shower and then i prepare my breakfast. It takes about 45 mins until i eat sth after my workout.

can you do it the other way around - exercise first and then eat?

Of course you can! You still burned your calories and even while your lying on your bed resting, your metabolism will be working for you to lose weight. Just not try to eat RIGHT AFTER your done with exercise. Make sure its at least 30 mins after your workout.
