My latest motivation for losing it, & keeping it off for good.

On Tuesday, I have to go to my brother's house & clean out a good laundry basket or more full of junk food -- cookies, candy, etc -- more than any one person, or even one family, should have available to them. The reason I have to do this is that a week ago, he was having quadruple bypass surgery, & then an implantable defibrillator was put in on Tuesday. He is exactly 1 year younger than our father was when he died of an undiagnosed arrhythmia, & our dad was relatively healthy (55 yo, mild hypertension that the MD didn't even give him meds for, he was trying to improve it with diet.) The even scarier part is that it happened 1 day prior to the 27th anniversary of our father's death. My brother is severely obese ( > 300 lb), has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, & may have had a silent heart attack a few months ago, according to some test results. He is lucky to be alive right now.

I am very glad I started this journey several months ago, so that I'm already on my way to better health. I don't feel I'll even be tempted to have any of the many treats in his house -- all I have to do is picture him post op, & then even yesterday, when he was so weak, I had to peel and section an orange for him so he could eat it, and it will firm up my resolve.

This has been a very scary wake up call for him, & a good reminder for me.

Best of luck to your brother. I hope that with your and the rest of your families support he can get himself back into good health.

Thanks. He's unmarried, & is currently in a hospital in NYC, while the rest of us live in Jersey, so it's been a logistical challenge as well

I wish you and your brother well. He is lucky to have such a supportive sister. Keep up the good work and can't wait for him to join us on here.
