The problem with spring

edited November 2024 in Health and Weight Loss
I was disappointed to see the scale go up by 1.5 lb. this morning. Then, when I was getting dressed, I saw that my feet are a little puffy. All of a sudden it hit me, we are having warmer weather (finally!!) and I am retaining a little more water than I do in winter (which I will keep all summer long). Oh well, a week or so with no loss (and possibly a gain) then back to regular losses. It is funny, it seems to always happen right around the time change too. I wonder if the hour of sleep lost triggers my body to go into summer mode.

I have noticed this temperature effect, too. When it's cold, I can get my rings off, but not when it's warm.

On the other hand, when it's warm out, especially now before it gets too hot, you are probably more inclined to get some fresh air and exercise!

Do you have a seasonal allergy that may be causing inflammation?

Your body is getting ready for the whoosh effect, maybe :)

If it is that, I have had it pretty much my entire life. It is just one of those things that happens and I deal with it. The good thing is that my water retention is pretty stable. I get a small gain in the spring and an extra whoosh in the fall, but minimal changes in between (unless I eat tons of salt or something but those are only for a day or two).

I looked back at my weight report from a year ago and, sure enough, I had a 10 day period where I didn't lose anything exactly a year ago. I don't record gains on MFP, just on the separate spreadsheet I keep to track other things.

Sounds to me like it may be an allergy, but as long as the gain dosnt discourage you there isn't any reason to worry about it.

Exactly. I live where the temps fluctuate from well below zero in the winter to the 90's in summer so weather related water retention is very common. Knowing what it is and why it happens is very reassuring. On a positive note, my rings are not spinning around my fingers so much. very annoying when they do that!
