You are not alone. I know the feelings so well especially the stress and lack of sleep eating. Those really add to out of control overeating for me.
I finally acknowledged this week that I unconsciously overeat when I am very tired. For some reason I won't just go get into the bed, I head for the kitchen and eat something sweet or crunchy. Never a glass of almond milk, a glass of carbonated water or a diet soda or a piece of fruit. And I'm not an exerciser. Just can't seem to get into the whole gym thing.
Acknowledging this is the first part of stopping the behavior. That awareness is good because I've been doing this for a long time and it has been at the periphery of my consciousness. Now that I am aware of it and have acknowledged it, I have to act to change that behavior. One thing I have done is to make myself go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time each day. If something gets left undone oh well. If I'm not sleepy or want to watch some movie, too bad. If I really feel like a slug and don't want to get up, too bad.
I started back yesterday (after a month of binging) to committing and tracking my food with MFP. I find it helps me to see exactly how much or how little I am eating because I really do have an unrealistic view of my food intake. Committing my food the night before on this site takes a lot of the pressure off me figuring out what to eat when I am hungry. I already have a food map for the day and I can just let that one thing go from all the pressure of trying to work, taking care of an aging parent, remodeling my home and all the self-care that I require in order to not be a raging lunatic.
Do one thing. No matter what it is, do one thing. Whether it be committing your food on MFP, getting in the bed an hour earlier than you have been, walking around the block, or saying no to something or someone, do it. There is a kind of magic in doing that and other things will follow. Good luck.0 -
