Ok, so after about a month of a very low sodium diet with a high potassium diet...
I lost somewhere between 8 to 10 kg in over a month.
Anyway, so it was my wife's birthday...so I decided to take that day off from the sodium diet.
So I had a sandwich for breakfast with a Coca Cola Zero...
Lunch I went to a seafood buffet...
Dinner we went to a chinese restaraunt.
Ok, so I must have not been paying attention to my sodium intake "obviously"
lol...I gained 7 kgs the next morning...since I always weigh myself in the morning...
I figured it was just water retention.
So I went about my low sodium diet once again...
Anyway, so 3 days have passed since then... I am still 5 kgs over -_-;
Did I really consume so much sodium...that water retention can happen for a number of days?
Please explain...I am confused.
I didn't go over my calorie intake either since I decided to ignore the sodium for the day...but still focus on the calories and portions I would consume.
I have difficulty understanding what is going on.

PS, I drink about 2 liters of water a day.
My low sodium diet is 300-500 mg a day.
Potassium is less than 2,000 mg a day.
Calories intake is somewhere between 1,300 to 1,600 a day.
I consume beef, salmon, tuna, salad, tomatoes, bananas, sweet potatoes, jalapenos, chicken breast. tofu, beans, potatoes, etc.

Patience, Grasshopper :). You know you didn't go over your calories, therefore it can't be anything but water weight. That's quite an impressive amount though!!

I had some water weight gain at the start of last week (oh but you were so delicious pizza!), took 5 days for the scales to get back to where they had been (and another couple to show this past week's loss).

I get major water retention whenever I go out for a night of drinking and it usually takes several days for my weight to go back down. Sometimes it can take up to a week. It's frustrating but it will go away eventually.

water weight can last several days. Now that I exercise most days (mostly cardio based due to a race I'm doing in September) I odn't often see much in the way of water weight, but I used to be able to gain 4-5 pounds and have it last for a good 4-5 days.

Three days? Pfft. Last time I went sodium crazy it took two full weeks for me to lose the 4lbs that came with it.

lol...wow...so sodium water retention actually takes about a week or two to fully disappear...

OP, can I just ask why you are doing such low sodium? Is this a medical thing?

I'm with y'a! Right number of calories but a couple days of processed foods and bam! Weight goes up. Day 3 of waiting for it to come back down while I drink lots of water and cut back the sodium.

I was going to say the same thing -- our body needs sodium! Why so low? My friend was put on a low sodium diet by her doctor and it was limited to 1500 mg per day. I can't imagine something that low!

I don't know kgs but you can gain 10 lbs in water in a day, so don't worry! Sodium messes with your water retention (and how it appears on the scale) and that's why a lot of people avoid it. But it doesn't affect your fat loss!

No particular reason. I just want to lose some body fat so I switched it up a bit. More potassium instead of sodium. Taking in little sodium is better than none I figured.
