I just stared drinking a gallon of water a day to help with my weight loss program. Everything i read states it helps. Does anyone have any thoughts or inputs on this? Just a little back ground about myself. I am a 46 year old female, 6 foot tall and so far I have dropped 36 pounds, my current weight is 321 pounds (too much, yes, i know). I exercise 5 days a week and i am really motivated.

A caloric deficit makes you lose weight. That means you need to eat less food than your body requires to function per day. If there is a shortage of energy from food, your body has to get it from somewhere else, and it will start using your stored fat for energy.
Water is for hydrating yourself. The reason many claim it helps, is because it temporarily fills up your stomach and makes you feel full, and it can make you eat less food when you drink it before a meal. (Which would put you in a caloric deficit.)
Doesn't help for me anymore though. I've gotted used to the amount I drink.0 -
Staying properly hydrated is a good practice for anyone. Drink plenty of water whether it helps you feel full or not!0

I drink a little over a gallon a day as well. It helps to flush out toxins, keeps your metabolism running strong and it helps with digestion! So I'd say keep going! But yea as the comment about said, caloric deficit will make you lose weight.0

I drink about 90 oz a day - don't know how many gallons that would be. Hydration is good for anyone, although you don't necessarily need a set amount - go by how concentrated your pee is.
I find I have to do most of my water consumption in the morning, so I'm not up at night to use the bathroom.0 -
I drink 3-4 liters of water per day. It's hot and windy all the time. Makes me thirsty.
Developing habit of drinking water in regular intervals will trick body in to not storing water and gives you transient weight loss.
Drinking excessive water in hypocaloric state might cause muscle twitching.
Best to keep water balance according to your sodium intake.0 -
All that water is going to do is make you pee a lot.
I mean, cold water does burn a few calories but that's maybe 100 extra from that whole gallon if it's really cold.0 -
Great info everyone, thank you!! I am going to continue to bulk up on the water because at least it is filling me up and helping me lower my caloric intake.
