Tips for Accurate Scales

Today I went out and bought some scales. I've never really cared what I weighed, since I'm more interested in size loss than an arbitrary weight number, but I figured using scales would be the best way to track loss, in addition to body measurements.
I got the scales home and they were very inaccurate. I put a 4lb weight on them and it displayed them as being 8.8lbs! Double the weight. In addition when I weighed myself, the scales fluctuated quite a bit--one reading would say one thing, another reading 5 minutes later would say I weighed several pounds more.
That sort of inaccuracy just makes them useless for my purposes. The manufacturer's website says they're supposed to be accurate within one pound, but that them being dropped can cause inaccuracy. Well, I didn't drop them, but I can't control what retail and warehouse workers did.
So, does anyone have any tips for getting a set of accurate scales, or getting scales to give an accurate reading?

i have the WW scale and its works fine. I've also stepped off and on a couple of times and it always reads the same. as far as being off a couple of pounds I'm not quite sure i don't have anything to compare to. but even if its off a couple of pounds you can still measure your weightloss.0

How can you measure your weight loss when it's fluctuating though? If I weigh 150 this week, and measure myself next week and it says 148...and then 152...and then 153, and then 146, all within 20 minutes, what am I to believe? Did I lose weight or gain it?
I wished I'd gotten the WW scale. It was $9 a few weeks ago at one store. I didn't have the extra cash on me at the time0 -
well right if a scale has three different readings in 20 min provided you didnt drink a gallon of water in between weighings sounds broken.
but what i mean is WW scale weighs you 150 lbs and another scale weighs you 155. the next week WW scale weighs you 149 and then other scale weighs you 154. they both are still saying you lost 1 lb.
but again thats given the scale doesnt change every time you step on it in the same moment.ive never had a scale do that and i owned many. the WW one has been my fav so far0 -
I have stepped on and off my scale 2-3 times within a few minutes and it always reads the same number so I know it's accurate that way. I haven't ever put a weight on it to see if it's truly accurate that way, but as long as the readings on the scale go down, and I get to the look that I desire I don't care if the scale says 120 when I'm really 125 or something.
I use a Thinner glass scale.0
