It would help if you made your diary public so we could see what's going on.
But if it's telling you that you need to eat more calories, then you are eating below what MFP recommends as a healthy minimum calorie intake.0 -
Made it public it was my fast day yesterday and finished on 534 hope im doing this right ???0
-
you didn't eat enough. Eat up to what it says your goal is and you will be able to close your diary. Eating to little can actually hinder your efforts and can't feel too great either.
ETA: On busy days keep some natural almonds handy. A handful will give you a good dose of nutrients and up your calories. Also you cankeep some PB and grab an apple. PB will also give a good protein and calorie boost. Even grabbing a to go carton of 2% milk will help give your body the energy it needs.
Hope this helps!0 -

MFP won't let you complete it if you're eating under 1000 and will give you the message under 1200. Obviously, if you're following 5:2 then it's probably going to be an issue for you. I just wouldn't hit complete on those two days.0 -
Could you explain ive put goal weight in as 9st current weight 11st activity level sedentry and it says net calories consumed 1640 i do my fast days yesterday and another on Thursday which is 500 calories for each day is that right????0

Assuming you're following one of the established IF plans, then yes, you're probably fine. MFP isn't setup for something that "extreme", and doesn't like it when people don't eat what it deems enough (even though you may well be doing that over longer periods of time).
It's just a limitation of trying to use MFP in a way it wasn't meant to be used.0 -

if you're doing 5:2 you should be eating at maintenance on your non fast days.0 -

In order to discourage people with eating disorders from following very low calorie diets and being encouraged by the weight prediction, they disabled it for those who eat under 1200 calories. It obviously sucks for 5:2 dieters, people on doctor-supervised low calories, and those who are shorter and/or older and would need fewer calories, but it's to save themselves from the wrong.0 -
What do you mean IF???0

Typically yes - I believe most programs like that have you fast ultra low for a couple of days, then eat at maintenance for the rest of the week. As such, you'll have to tell MFP that you want to maintain your weight (not lose or gain) and have it calculate that calorie goal for you. Eat that on your non fast days, and 500 cals or whatever on your fast days.
Are you following a program specifically, or just piecing this together yourself?0 -
Getting. Confused????0 -

OK, let's start from the beginning. You said yesterday was your fast day at just over 500 cals. Why so few calories for an entire day? Is that a typical day for you?0 -
On my two fast days yes0

moresleepplease wrote: »On my two fast days yes
So you eat 500ish cals 2 days per week? What about the rest of the week?

I try and eat 1640 calories like it says on my fitness pal is that right??0

Hard to say for sure. You've got a plan in place, it seems mostly reasonable. Now just do it for a while and see what happens. There are so many variables that some trial and error is often the best approach. Do your plan for a month or so and see what kind of results you get, then go from there.0

IF = intermit fasting, which is what you are doing if you are only eating 500 cals 2 days a week.
It wont let you publish as you are not eating enough and MFP doesnt know you are IF. You might just not be able to complete on your fast days.0 -

The rest of the week is supposed to be maintenance on the 5:2 diet.0 -

Yes, thanks. I know how it works, I was trying to find out if OP did.0 -
Yes then the non fast days i try and eat 1640 like it says on mfp am i doing it right0

1640 will be your goal for weight loss, but on non-fasting days you should be eating at maintenance.
For 5:2, it would be better if you set your profile to 'maintain weight' rather than to lose. On fasting days eat the 500 cals as you are doing. On maintenance days, eat what MFP sets as your maintenance goal (remembering that on MFP it is a net calorie goal and you are supposed to eat exercise calories on top of this).
On fasting days, just don't worry about the complete button.0 -

so wise for one so young0 -
Have you tried the simple - 'be in a caloric deficit each day of the week approach' ?? It has been working for me and a great deal of people on my friends list. Plus, why starve yourself two days a week... Seems bizarre, but perhaps I am missing something.

There's too much to explain in 1 post. If you want to learn, do some searching and reading. Otherwise, you've got a plan, so go with it and see how things go. If you don't get the results you want, or feel lousy doing it, then tweak something.0 -

'That' is setting up your myfitness pal account to lose weight. Stay under your daily calorie goal. Track every gram of food and don't go over your daily amount. It that's simple - calories in and calories out.
I started doing this 1-1/2 months ago and I'm down 15 pounds.
There is a ton of information available so like Jack said, do some research and find out what works for you. Perhaps you want to try the fasting thing after you get going on a roll, but by the looks of your diary you are just starting out, and fasting may be a tough way to start. I'm no expert, just trying to offer some advise that has worked for me.0 -
Hi ive done my tdee which is 1667 which means my caloric deficit is 1200 do I put 1667 into mfp and have 1200 calories everyday is that what you mean0
