Could someone explain how to weigh and input food?

I am planning to buy a good scale. If I make a salad do I weigh each ingredient? Or do I make the salad, input the entire recipe, and then weigh a serving and input the grams of that serving?
Is it easy to find most typical foods measured in grams on myfitnesspal?
Do you have any tips for weighing foods appropriately?
TIA!

I hope that you don't mind if I link you to two previous posts, instead. They cover this issue in way more depth than I'm willing to type out :drinker:
