Hi all, so I decided to try my hand at using weights to get my butt into shape, I've only really used 3lb weights before in a bodypump class, I've devised my own routine and is goes like this.
Squat 3x10
Lunge 3x10 each leg
Deadlift 3x10
Chest Flye 3x10
Chest Press 3x10
Press up 3x6
Bent over row 3x10
Shoulder press 3x10
Bicep curl 3x10
Tricep kickback 3x10
I then do around 100 crunches in varying form, basic crunch, reverse crunch, oblique crunch etc
I follow with back extensions.
I'm using currently 1.5kilo dumbell weights and intend to do 3 times weekly increasing weight by 0.5 kilo every week.
Does this sound like an ok plan to follow or is it completely useless??? I'm also doing cardio 3 x per week for 40 mins.
Thanks.x

Once you get to remotely heavy weights, it'll be way too much.
I'd suggest looking up Starting Strength, or even StrongLifts for a solid weight lifting routine, and either of those will take up way less of your time than your routine.
Mark Rippetoe, who wrote the book Starting Strength, has been coaching beginning weight lifters for a long time, and has a solid education in it -- it's worked wonders for me, and I'd trust his expertise. As a self-confessed newbie, it's unlikely that a routine you make up will be as effective as one devised by an expert. The price of a book is a small price to pay for maximal benefits.0
