i am 173 lbs and 5'5 and I want to lose 2 lbs a week. Fitness pal calculated me to eat 1500 calories a day. I feel like that is too much and I will gain weight. Am I wrong

I'm the same height as you, and around the same weight. I have myself at a sedentary setting, which gives me 1260, plus my exercise calories (from my Fitbit). Usually I get an extra 2-300, which gets me around the 1500 mark. I am losing weight, so why not try it for a couple of weeks and see?

Be sure to weigh and measure your food, to ensure you're not underestimating your calories. It's very easily done.

You can google tdee calculator, and it will give you an estimate of how many calories you need to maintain. Eat less than your tdee and you should lose, but remember that these tdee calculators are only an estimate of your maintenance calories.
