SUPPLEMENTS! (what should I use?)

I use 3 Sups, one being a fat burner. I drink a 100% whey protein shake in the morning with my breakfast and a Casein protein shake before bed (post-workout); my fat burners I take 2 pills a day, 1 about 30m before breakfast, and the other one about 30m before my preworkout meal so around 4ish. Honestly it's hard so say if the fat burner is actually working or not bc I don't have much fat to burn as it is. I just feel like they keep me where I wanna be as far as BF% goes. A lot of ppl say it's a waste of money, or they don't work. Could be, who knows. I get them for a real low price compared to retail and that's also why I continue to take them. Try it out! Just keep in mind that during the first container it might not work right away since it needs to saturate into your body and system and *kitten*. For both of my proteins I use Optimum Nutrition. And my fat burner I use Lipo 6. Goodluck man. What's gonna get you to where you wanna be tho is a good diet and excercise! No way around that.0

I was more or less looking for a jump start. Not anything long term. I've been consistently going at it since I started my journey two weeks ago and getting started is always the hardest part. The sooner I can see results the more I'm motivated so I just like what I call a jump start. I had to do this same thing in the past from injuries. Which is again this time why I had to take time off. But I totally agree with everyone that's against supplements and I understand. It's just a mental trick I like to play on myself in the early stage of my comebacks.
No such thing. Consistency and accuracy is all you really need.DC_TheDrivah1 wrote: »I use 3 Sups, one being a fat burner. I take a fat burner green tea pill from Costco. It basically just a magic wand. The clue is if the package says "in conjunction with a program of diet and exercise this product may help you lose weight" DUH! If your on a diet/exercise program you don't need the pill.0

It may give you some energy (I don't know if there is caffeine in it- I'm assuming yes), but it isn't going to act as a fat burner.0 -
Fish oil (EPA/DHA) and Vitamin D if you live in North America or Europe, maybe a multivitamin.
I've just seen some stuff about cinnamon, who knows!

Also, green tea, apparently. But you have to have like at least 5 cups a day0

Yeah I don't believe the fat burning claims

OTC "fat burners" are bunk.
However... taking a multivitamin, and even some other sorts of vitamin supplements, could help lose more weight than if you don't. (As always, check with your doctor to make sure there's no medical reason that you should not take vitamins.)
Here's the summary of one study:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16296926
"Among overweight or obese men and women, long-term use of multivitamins, vitamins B6 and B12, and chromium were significantly associated with lower levels of weight gain."
And the results appear to be dose-dependent.
Another study:
http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=1831172&fileId=S0007114507853335
"Compared with non-consumers, male consumers of vitamin and/or dietary supplements had a lower body weight ... fat mass ... BMI ... and a tendency for greater resting energy expenditure ... In women, the same differences were observed but not to a statistically significant extent ... female supplements consumers had lower ... hunger scores ... fasting and postprandial appetite ratings were significantly reduced in multivitamin and mineral-supplemented women"
(The "dietary supplements" they're talking about are other vitamins, not things like whey protein.)0 -
I think people who cannot answer a post with a legit answer should stay away. Certain supplements work for certain people. If they didn't work for you, all it means is that it didn't work for *YOU*. Yes, some are a waste of money but OP asked those who have experience with them. So if you've never even used supplements and you're posting about how they don't work or are a waste of money it's kind of rude and annoying.
Some people need to get off their high horse.
Ok. Here's a legit response for you.
Eat at a deficit. Exercise for fitness. If you are lifting, get enough protein. Drink plenty of water. Get sleep. Rinse, wash and repeat.
A "fat burning" pill is not only bunk (if it really worked, don't you think everyone would be on them?!) but it is also dangerous.
You can't cheat hard work. Period.
PRMinx
I agree with what you said in bold. The point is, he is asking about something else. He is not asking " what do you do to burn fat or lose weight" or " what are some weight loss tips'' etc. I feel that people need to stay on the topic.
In the OP he stated "Id like to hear what you have to say about fat burning supplements" We replied to his post with what we had to say about them. I'm not sure where the confusion is?
@Troutsy LOL uuhmm there is no confusion?
@PRMinx Yes this is a public forum and lots of replies are going to be had. I've just seen tons of people post tons of stuff in general that have nothing to do with the OP and it's irritating, and I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. Also, It just comes off as smug when someone has a disposition that comes off as " No do it my way don't do it your way'
The OP asked what we thought of fat burning pills and we told him. Fat burning pills don't work and they can be dangerous. There's no sugar coating here and if bunk science is being shared, or if there is a product in question that is a clear waste of money, people are going to say something. If you are offended by this response, then maybe you should stick to the groups for support.0 -
Alright mate. I take the usual multivitamin and fish oils and ON protein powder (two scoops, 50g protein) and 5g of Creatine a day. I don't drink any coffee or take stimulants, but after a year or so of lifting I ordered some ON Gold pre work out the other day to see if it really does give Focus, pump etc. I felt the tingles, but not really any significant energy. However, I felt quite low, anxious a few hours later instead of the usual natural high I get from working out. Same thing the next day so I have decided to drop pre workouts. I know I probably should experiment with other brands, but I don't like the idea of having to artificially motivate myself to want to workout. Those things can destroy your adrenals if over used too (but each to their own). I have no experience with fat burners.0

TLDR, i agree with all of them ^0

bostonultd1 wrote: »Well, your not going to get much love in these forums about supplements. Personally though, I prefer them for various reasons. I take a pre workout, post workout along with a post carb, protein shake before and after gym, a "fat burner" and a test booster. I personally like how those make me feel during and after a workout. I have plenty of energy and my recovery is excellent day after day and I like to hit the weights hard 6 days a week. If you're interested, check out Jim Stoppani's supplement line on bodybuilding.com. great products and he has plenty of videos explaining each product and different workout techniques. Just search "JYM". I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of hate now because I'm endorsing some supplements *eye roll*
Quit wasting your money.
I competed naturally and looked at supplements as the holy grail for nutrition. With the exception of protein powder and creatine, the rest of the stuff I tried (and I've tried lots of supplements at the cost for $200 per month for years) could only be verified as anecdotal results.
When I actually started doing peer reviewed studying on them, I found out that that the majority of them are pretty ineffective or had very little impact.
Don't fall for the broscience early on like I did, especially from the bodybuilding community. As for JYM, he doesnt' manufacture his own products. He buys them from a 3rd party manufacturer just like 90% of all sellers (usually from the same manufacturer) so basically they are all similar.
Correct eating, correct rest, and a good workout program are usually all one needs. Supplements are just an extra cost for most people.

Dude, just eat less and move more. Its not that hard to lose weight if you actually put in effort. None of this fat burning crap works. Is it really that hard to just eat at a calorie deficit? Just eat 500 less calories than you need every day for the next few months and the weight will fall off easy.0

I don't use anything but protein powders and coffee or caffeine pill before workouts.0

this is the best fat burning supplement out there

As a random aside, the OP said he was sensitive to caffeine and therefore didn't want to use caffeine. I would think most fat burners would incorporate caffeine as well as other stimulates. In addition, if you are sensitive to caffeine, you would likely also be affected strangely by other stimulants.
OP, sounds like it would be a safer idea for you to avoid the fat burner products.0
