Saw this yesterday on some news (this one is from the Star online for the sake of simplicity):
A British Airways plane was forced to return to London due to a foul odour emanating from the flight's lavatory, the Daily Mail reported.
Hertsmere local councillor Abhishek Sachdev, who was a passenger on board, tweeted that the flight en route to Dubai was forced to turn back near Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday night because of “smelly poo in the toilet”.
Passengers then had to endure a 15-hour wait for the next flight, but were provided hotel accommodation and food vouchers.
Abhishek said the flight had departed without any problems, until the captain made an announcement half an hour after take-off.
“The pilot made an announcement requesting senior cabin crew, and we knew something was a bit odd.
“About 10 minutes later he (the captain) said you may have noticed there’s a quite pungent smell coming from one of the toilets.
“He said it was liquid faecal excrement, those are the words he used. He said it’s not a technical fault with the plane, and he was very adamant about that,” the Tory councillor was quoted as telling the MailOnline Travel.
The plane had no choice but to turn back to Heathrow Airport after cabin crew were unable to fix the problem and the smell became unbearable for passengers seated near the lavatory.
An initial three-hour wait for the next flight turned into an overnight delay, and Abhishek told MailOnline Travel that ground staff were unprepared to deal with the incident.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose a whole day of your trip. You might expect it on some random airline, but you wouldn’t expect it from British Airways,” he said.
An airline spokesman subsequently offered an apology to travellers. “We're very sorry for the discomfort to our customers. We provided them with hotel accommodation and rescheduled the flight to depart the next day.”
