Deer Steak Ideas?

I was just gifted some nice deer steaks. I love deer sausage and venison ravioli but the only time I had venison it was marinated in Italian dressing (which I'd heard is the way to do it) but I didn't enjoy that flavor at all. Does anybody else have ideas for a marinade or seasoning?

I liked to marinade my deer meat in Dale's Seasoning for a half hour or so before I cooked it. It can be a little salty so I usually would use the lower sodium version and add a little water to the marinade. You could probably find it at Kroger's or Walmart.0

I like a soy/teriyaki marinade when I use one. Remember venison has almost no fat. If it does have visible fat, trim it off because that is where the "gamey" taste associated with game is found. I either cook venison low and slow in a crock-pot, by braising, or barely at all. I love a nice bloody red venison steak with salt pepper and a bit of roasted garlic.0

Both are good ideas and sound way more to my personal tastes, thanks I think I have some Dales on hand actually. I like beef fat and just figured they'd be all the same, but I will definitely trim it off of my venison. I bet that will help me enjoy the flavor more this time around.0

If it's not too gamey, grill it lightly with salt and pepper.0

We use red wine vinegrette.0

If you soak the venison in buttermilk before marinating it will take the gamey flavor out0

I love venison. If I'm grilling or pan frying steaks, I just salt it and make a Cumberland sauce to go with it. So good.0

Don't over cook it! That is the biggest thing with Venison, I serve it med-rare. If you over cook it, it gets a taste like liver.0

Make them into Kbobs. Bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and tomatoes. you can either marinate it all with the deer steak in Italian dressing or Worcestershire sauce.0

If it's a steak, marinade and don't overcook as mentioned above. If it's more of a roast, try in the crockpot with some onion soup mix.0

Wow thanks everyone! These are some really good ideas, I think I'll make venison a bigger part of my diet so I can try all these0

we soak deersteak in buttermilk or milk (or even coffee creamer!) overnite in the fridge to remove the gamey flavor. I don't know how- but it works!0

I love venison... I make venison unstuffed pepper soup out of the ground, and venison pepper steak over rice. Delicious and low calorie. Since it has such a low fat content and can be tough, I like to cook it in strips.. a whole steak can get really chewy. Lucky you, I just used the last of my venison last month. No more for another year0

Allegro Game Tame Marinade is soy based found in most supermarkets. Marinate no more than 2 hours. Always grill venison rare. It's the best!
