When the scales just dont shift

I am resigned that at 50 weight loss is slow... gone are the days when 2 weeks some crash diet would lose 10 lbs. I have been diligent / borderline obsessive, recording and weighing everything and 90% of the time within my calorie allowance. BUT the scales are not reflecting my efforts.... what can I do to kick start and keep motivated?

If you're watching your food and staying active without results, you might consider talking to your primary care doctor. Sometimes it's just a plateau, but you might also have other health factors contributing. I know for me, my doctor has to do a blood test every 90 days because of ongoing hormonal issues and vitamin deficiencies that affect my weight. No matter what, just hang in there!

I have better results when I lower my carbs and up my protein. MFP default setting is usually 50% carbs. Between 35 and 40%, I see faster results. But that's me.
Also, have you taken measurements? I never lose inches and pounds at the same time! Always one or the other it seems.

I am 50 as well and I have to agree with melduf...I lowered my carbs and upped my protein and have been losing regularly since 1/4 when I came back to MFP (down 18 lbs since then). I am also at 1200 calories a day.

I have fruit if I want it but try to not have any breads and rarely have potatoes, pasta or rice. Not sure why, couldn't tell you any science behind it and I know lots of people on here say it is calories in, calories out no matter what they are BUT for me, adjusting what my calories come from has helped the scales move!
