Anyone else in the UK seen the upcoming BBC1 programme about how sugar is 'so' bad for us? Just saw it being advertised on Breakfast and it infuriated me.

Well its on tomorrow night, so I'll reserve judgement till then. Is it Horizon? Because they are pretty good.0

No I don't think its Horizon, the info says 'Journalist Fiona Phillips is on a mission to find out the truth behind the recent headlines on sugar'. But if its anything like what she's just been banging on about this morning it should be interesting!0

Whatever her name was on breakfast news - Fiona something?? She was very infuriating indeed. It's not Horizon and will be interesting to watch bearing in mind all I've learnt on MFP about sugar being the devil - NOT! I do agree though that it is stuffed into way too many foods labelled as healthy and/or just foods you wouldn't ever imagine it was in.0

Sound bite TV.
It's really not that difficult to read food labels and make appropriate choices.

BANDWAGON MEDIA BOLLOX
^^ that, we get the same thing this side of the pond. some fool on one of the morning shows was telling everyone to throw out all the sugar and was tossing food in a trash can.
really?
i had a half a heath bar that night just for the heck of it (and i had massive calories to spare LOLOL)
every year or two, the 'experts' declare something else horrible. its cyclical. i ignore it all, educate my girls properly (so they dont learn to blindly believe what 'experts' say), and go about my merry way.0 -

There's a doc on BBC2 called Eat to Live Forever tonight, with Giles Coren looking at paleo, fruitarian diets and fasting/calorie restriction. Might be worth a watch to see if anything new is mentioned (that's if I can sit through an hour of Giles Coren).0

I'm not sure I want to live forever (especially if I can never have pavlova again) but I might give that a watch tonight- right after masterchef, just so I know what I would be missing.0

Sugar is bad for us in the sense that its put in every processed food and drink item. Constantly eating massive amounts of sugar on a daily basis is not good for your overall health.
Also, its media, they will make it dramatic to get views.

Yeah I do understand that part of it, but it annoys me when the media don't seem interested the view point of moderation and education instead? When we start telling people what they can and can't eat rather than about portion control or just being aware of the amount of sugar they consume and that its part of a balanced diet, I think that ends up part of the whole problem...she says while eating a Cadburys Crème Egg

Mass media are concerned with ratings and awards and little else. It is absolutely the worst place to get nutrition or health information. Unfortunately, it's probably where the majority look for this information.0
