Im trying to increase my running distance over the past few weeks. Started at running 5km and now running 11km. My goal is 21km (half marathon). The way I have been doing it is increasing by 1km every week. Any advice on training this way to reach my goal? In a week I would try run 2 long runs, 3 short runs (5km) and have 2 rest days. How do you increase your running distance/time?

Check out Hal Higdon's Half Marathon training plan: http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51131/Half-Marathon-Novice-1-Training-Program

I'm following it right now as I am also planning to do a half marathon in May :)

common race training is to do only one long run, a few shorter runs, and a mid length run. At first, you will get faster simply by running more. So adding 1km to your long run per week is fine. After you've been running that distance comfortably for a bit (3 months is usually prescribed), you can start adding speed work (such as intervals and 'tempo' runs) into your training. But at first, its just a game of more miles, more miles, more miles.
