protein help

My protein goal says 57 but I'm always over it by a lot. I eat a lot of salads and veggies but since I'm concerned that I'm taking in too much protein I'm not getting enough calories. Any suggestion? Just gettin back to logging and I can't remember how to hit most goals together

Choose protein sources with more fat - if you stick to really lean low fat meat that's protein and not much else. Salad dressings or mayo would be anothe roil / fat source to add to get cals without much protein.

That 57 grams suggestion is absurdly low if you're trying to lose weight and not lose all your lean body mass in the process. Treat it as the absolute minimum your body needs, and really, if you want to look good when you lose all the weight then eat about 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass and make sure that you're incorporating some type of strength training in your weekly workouts. This can range anywhere from bodyweight routines to power lifting. Just find something you like.

Don't worry about going over. The amount here is default set and it's set far too low. It's good to go over protein.

You need to define your protein target in sync with your health objectives.

I have achieved my target weight and I am trying to reduce Body Fat.

My daily protein target is (0.8 times my weight in pounds) grams.

    Good luck in your journey

what he said.. if any issues with fats try to eat healthy fats not from dressing mayo.. youll get enough saturated fats from lean meats.. need Essential fatty acids. fish nuts etc.

I average about 100g of protein a day, my body doesn't do good with carbs or sugar so I have to eat more protein. I wouldn't be concerned that you are going over that goal. If you are losing then I say stay the course. Happy losses!

What I have been taught by my R.D. (registered dietician): your body can only absorb so much protein at once. So try to spread your protein out throughout the day. Excess protein is just washed out in the urinary system and is wasted.

Competitive bodybuilders will get up to about 1 gram/pound. Most people should probably be between 0.5 and 0.8, but try to spread it fairly evenly throughout the day.

But I would guess that 57 grams is way too low. Unless you are like 115 pounds right now. You can set your MFP goals yourself.

.8 to 1 is normal to retain and some ppl have some growth off of just that.. bodybuilders on the juice are more like 1.5 to ive heard 3g per which is insane.. what ive read about absorption is yes most pp max absorbtion is around 50 -60grams in a meal.

I am 5'6" and weigh 129, I eat more than 130 grams of protein a day, yours is way to low, you should be adding to that number..

This is incorrect but a common misconception.

Exactly. Here's an article by Alan Aragon in which he examines several studies and discusses the results:

i'd be concerned that 140grams of protein in one sitting would not be broke down efficiently enough to absorb as much as breaking it up over a period of the day.

Read the article directly above. It's basically one less thing that you need to worry about.

Your body will absorb all the protein but around 30-50 grams at a time goes towards anabolism or muscle building.
