I just joined a gym a few days ago and I don't even know what to do lol. I get on the bike for about 5 minutes to get my heart rate up. I do arms one day and core and legs the other day (alternating days). I set the weight on the machines so its not to much but not to less just comfortable enough to lift without hurting myself. My problem is I don't know how many reps I need to do or how many to do in a rep. Also if anyone knows of a website I can look at to show me how to lift weights (barbells) correctly for beginners I would really appreciate it a lot!!

Well done for joining the gym and getting stuck in with strength training.

For a start, strong lifts 5x5 is a great starting point for beginners, all the workouts are heavy compound movements which require barbells.

However, if you want to incorporate some dumbbells and cable machines into your workout then I would recommend this guide: http://www.buffdudes.us/2014/04/buff-dudes-12-week-plan.html - Me and my girl friend did this when we both started getting serious about the gym and she loved it just as much as I did.

Both of these guides come with step by step video instruction on how to perform each exercises, how many sets and reps you should do and also gives you a rough guide into nutrition.

    Good luck!
