Here to educate myself on my daily diet and stay on track

I am a married man with two growing boys and time has been very kind to my body. However, I could do a better job and not work against time. I have always been an active kid and played many sports throughout school and outside of school. I might not play as much as I wish but I could be doing a lot less in my spare time. Spare time is very rare on my agenda. There is the typical Groundhog Day routine of going to work for a large Fortune 500 telecommunication company (15+ years in their data center). I also coach youth soccer and have my US Soccer National E Coaching License. I coach 4 seasons a year and at one point had three separate teams. Other than coaching, I enjoy playing soccer. In our small town a lot of the youth coaches play against our two local high school squads throughout their off seasons to keep them in shape. My favorite position if goalie. I like to get crazy and put my body on the line. Soccer has become a passion and surprisingly is not a sport I played in my youth. I started getting the itch when my oldest son started playing when he was 6. So it has been less than a decade. I also enjoy going disc golfing.

I joined MyFitnessPal to track my food intake and educate myself on how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis. We are doing a huge health initiative at work to get or stay active and I wanted to take it to the next level. Now I can limit myself on grazing all day. Especially if I want to drop just a few excess pounds. Hopefully between tracking food in MyFitnessPal and my activity in MapMyFitness I should be able to stay on track and motivated.

Why I want to get in shape?
Health reasons of course. At my age, you need to take all the precautions that you can. I'm also tired of seeing that extra jiggle in the mirror. Another great reason to get and stay in shape is I am going to go bald. I can't be bald and fat and old, that is never a good combo. So, might as well stay in shape and wear some kick *kitten* hats.
