    Fat reduction = eating fewer calories than you burn

    Adding walking and running will increase the calories that you burn so, yes, it can help out with fat loss. However, there is no way to ensure that the fat will come from your stomach. Usually you lose some all over but there are definitely spots that seem to lose it faster/slower. The sticking points for a lot of people are the stomach (usually men and some women) and butt/thighs (often women and some men.) So generally you just keep at it, losing fat, and eventually the stomach will get smaller.

    Sit ups and other ab-specific exercises can strengthen your core (muscles) but will not make your body shed fat specifically in that area.

    A guide to get you started on your path to Sexypants:

    I've made a lot of progress and haven't completed the first sit up. I walk and run, though. I lift weights. I also did not target any one area. Isolation of one target area doesn't work. Please read the link above for a better understanding of what I did.

    I weighed my food.
    I set my goal calories and stayed within those goal calories.
    I walked, ran, did jumping jacks, hulahooped, lifted weights, drank water and rested.
    And kept repeating all of that until I saw results, and then I continued to do the things that initially got results.

    ^^^ Couldn't have said it any better.

    Calories deficit=weight loss

    Exercise = fitness

    For core, forget situps.......plank etc (there are great videos on youtube for core exercises)

    Agree with everything above. You can't spot reduce fat. When you body burns fat you don't get to choose which fat it takes.

    All exercising burns calories which 'might' cause your body to burn fat. That fat is reduced all over your body, you cannot spot reduce a particular area.

    If you eat more than you burn, nothing can cause the fat to be reduced anywhere.

    Walking is great exercise. For fitness you ideally want both cardio (walking) and some form of resistance (or strength) training. The resistance training will help you keep the muscle you have. Muscle is a nice tight look...not all jiggly. Google bodyweight workouts and add some of those also.
