Lesson Learn on What not to eat...

So yesterday, after working out, I went to Tropical Smoothie to get my protein shake treat (Muscle Blast (strawberry, banana, whey protein w/splendor 179 cal). I had a coupon for 50% off sandwich so I'm like okay let me get a sandwich. I got the totally turkey wrap w/o looking at the calories. Today I went to log my dinner it was 550 calories!!!! OMG - so not worth it. Blew my calorie count away - Lucky I worked out. Lesson learned never order anything off a menu without checking the calories. (rookie mistake)

Yea, I've fallen into that trap more than once. It's even worse at a buffet.0

Never eat the bread..0

It's a learning process - now that you know that one count, you'll be able to guesstimate a lot more closely how many calories are in a lot of similar foods. So yay for the turkey wrap!0

Wait, so the smoothie and the sandwich were 550 calories or just the sandwich? Either way, that's not that bad at all.0

I've been doing this 2 years and I'm still occasionally caught off guard by how many calories something has. It's all part of the process.0

550 calories for dinner is not much at all. even if it was 550 for the sandwich plus the 180 for the smoothie.
and "never eat the bread"? wut?0 -

This. I mean.. I eat that for breakfast.... but I also don't have a 2lb/week goal like a large chunk of Mfp members have, thus my calories are higher (and I do TDEE so I eat consistently from day to day, thus not having to anticipate whether I'll have enough calories based off of the day's exercise).0 -
I dunno...it all depends how you log your day. Maybe the OP eats majority of calories in the am/lunch time and so small dinner?0
-
Either way, regardless, one "bad" day is not going to wreck your diet. You'll get back on track

It's not going to derail you. Most likely, you'll still be under maintenance and won't gain fat (you may gain water weight from the sodium, however).0

Oh I've been there too... Now when I get a wrap, sandwich or burger I always ask them to wrap it in lettuce leaves instead of a tortilla or bread. It is AMAZING how many calories it reduces something like a hamburger or wrap like you had!0

You did the right thing; you chocked it up to experience. However, if you have behaved the rest of the week, it won't hurt you. Realize that there is a weekly total as well. If you average it out over the week, it was probably insignificant.0

Just adjust your strategy and chill. All a learning process anyway. Less than an hour in the gym.0

Thanks guys for all the great responses. After thinking about it and reading comments... There are options to make adjustments Like ask them not to put the dressing on it. I think I was just ranting... thanks for listening and helping.... This is truly a journey of lesson.0

so true i read somewhere that a particular panera sandwich had just as much calories as a McDonalds Big Mac!!! so yeah i read calories on menu, but the rule of thumb i found is if it has cream, sauce, bread, mayo, or just too many ingredients skip it. Go lean meat, veggie/grain/lettuce or fruit. Keep it simple.0

Yep! good rule!0
