Have you done it? What motivates you to continue doing it instead of just go out of the office? When you're almost at the end of this what you think so you can keep motivated?

I've done over 27 hours without stopping and it's insane :#

I do it because I have not because i want to.
If my project schedule is very tight or my workload very high, I'll stay late or go in on a Saturday but I'm not happy. I don't get OT for it so I make sure to send an email with my boss CC'd so itll be reflected in my year end bonus

I do it when I have to do it...and I don't get paid anything extra for it...it's just part of the job.

I'm a teacher...contrary to popular belief we don't just rock up to work at 9, run out at 3 then do nothing at home :). In England we're paid to do 1265 hours a year, which includes teaching, duties, weekly meetings and parents' evenings. It doesn't include planning, marking and all the paperwork we do.

I teach French and before I had children I used to run our school trip to Paris. That took hours of organising, and chasing parents to fill in forms, then I left at 7am Mon morning and got back 7pm Fri evening. I didn't get paid a penny of overtime.

The only advantage is that a lot of our extra work can be done at home.

Working construction, I try my hardest to hit overtime midweek so I have three days full of OT. I have to bank money for winter layoffs.

I dint even like working five days a week so I try to avoid overtime ;-)

Nonetheless, on my job we have involuntary overtime. The place is open 24/7 do if no one shows up to relieve me, I have to stay. During blizzards and hurricanes I've done 48+ hours in a row.
