Does a lot of pain burn calories

Hi I am not sure just how to use this yet but does anyone know if a lot of pain burns calories? I have gone over the set goal for several days in a row and was starting to gain weight but the last 2 days I have not been able to keep the pain under control and even though I am eating a lot by my standards and going over the calorie goal I still dropped down to 103 this morning. Not quite sure how to compensate for it. Anyone know anything about this part? Gee I hope this makes sense. Thank you!

What are you using to try to manage the pain? Medication can influence your water weight heavily.0

Sorry if I've missed something? What is the cause of your pain? I imagine in short bursts it will raise your heart rate, increase adrenalin secretion etc but the increase in calorie burn would be negligible.0

MFP has actually written on the topic of muscle pain quite a bit but I don't know if you mean hunger pains. In my experience hunger pain is really hard at first, but subsides in a couple of weeks after your body gets used to portion reduction.

I think I must've burned a lot of calories in labour...that hurt a lot! I'm fairly sure most pain doesn't burn calories though, or not enough to make a difference anyway.0

Thank you both very much. My pain is mostly from scoliosis since birth, that and a bunch of accidents. There are times my stomach hurts but it was mostly due to antibiotics, that and needing to eat so much to gain a tiny bit of weight. But things are getting better at least I can now eat a whole sandwich and not go into a food coma0

If I had to guess I would say both the flare-up and the weight loss are symptoms of something else as opposed to one causing the other. I'm guessing you are on meds? Have you had times before when they failed to control your pain? Maybe there is a pattern to be found?0

My guess is no. I have no science to back this up but my own chronic pain was at its worst at the same time that I first started gaining weight. So if it does burn calories, it wasn't enough to offset the lack of calorie burn caused by being increasingly sedentary.0

Well trying to use this part of the app is a bit confusing. It seems I don't know how to reply to individuals.
I am on pain meds 10mg of Oxycodone twice a day. It seems the pain causes a kind of isometric tension in all of my muscles pretty much 24/7 and I know isometric exercise does burn calories. I have tried muscle relaxers but all they do is plug up my nose worse than if I have a cold. Which is why I was wondering if pain of this kind burns calories. I think I might be getting more exercise than I originally thought. Thank you all so much.0
