Lesser of Two Evils!

So, I have a little dilemma going on right now in my house. So my family brought Popeye's for dinner, which is really bad because I'm trying to lose weight. I've been doing really well lately drinking water, watching what I eat, and exercising; however I feel I'm on the brink because the cravings and the smell are tempting me to have a piece. I do have a saving grace though. There is some thawed ground turkey that's ready to cook, but I feel like it's probably too late to eat or cook a heavy meal...So has anyone dealt with this problem yet?

Can't you have a piece and just record it in your food log? Do you have calories in your day for it? If so, I say just have your piece.

CICO. Popeye doesn't make you fat. So.. eat the popeye if you can make it fit into your calories.

Do you have enough calories to eat some of the chicken? Or, if not, is it early enough where you are to go for a walk or a jog?

We rarely have fast food in our house, as I just don't care for it much, but when we do I just work some into my goal. Usually I'm up a pound the next day from the sodium and then it goes away.

Eat a reasonable amount of Popeye's, then if that puts you over calories, exercise a bit extra tomorrow. Losing weight doesn't have to mean never having food you like.

Its sacrilege, but you could even pull the skin off and just eat the chicken.

I actually have a lot of room to add it into my food diary, I guess it's more of the guilt I'll feel that I "gave in" and the panic that it's going straight to my thighs :\

Food shouldn't be causing you guilt. Should you aim for a diet that's full of protein, healthy fats, whole grains, fruits and veggies? Of course! Will it hurt anything to sometimes have some fried chicken? Assuming that you stay within your calorie goal (occasionally going over isn't so bad either, as long as it's not a regular thing) and have no underlying health issues (chicken allergy?)-- Nope.
  • If it fits into your calories, just eat it and log it. You're not "giving in." Lifestyle change means exactly that, LIFE. Are you planning to go the rest of your life without having any fried chicken ever?

Am I the only one for whom the thread title paired with a food context immediately evoked memories of this: :)

There's no moral value attached to food. Its just food. No reason for guilt. If you aren't eating more than you burn, you won't gain weight in your thighs or anywhere else.

Lose this mindset right away! :) Enjoy your chicken. It's food, and food is good. We need food. You are still within your daily goals, so where's the guilt? Your chicken won't go straight onto your thighs any more or any less than any other food will. If you're eating at a deficit, that chicken can't make you gain weight. A little water from the sodium, possibly - and temporarily - but not weight.

Yeah, harboring guilt is a big problem for me and for my friends who are trying to lose weight So we really need to learn how to adopt a new attitude towards food. For the sake of time and pure energy, I will pick wisely and pair it with a salad, water, and low calorie dressing
