Years ago I read that the role of Thiamin was akin to a match setting light to the fuel stored in the body i.e. fat. So i wondered if this were true and whether increasing vitamin B2 would help burn away the fat stored in the body ? I am thinking of sublimenting my diet with more martmite which is suppose to be high in B2. This is a brand name for yeast extract. I am going to try a daily cup of marmite soup to see what happens.

Only calorie deficit makes stored body fat go away. But vitamin deficiencies may be making you lethargic so that you aren't able to be as active as you could have been. Nonetheless, you can achieve a calorie deficit with diet alone, exercise is not necessary for weight loss - but good for overall health.

Actually Thiamine is Vitamin B1. Riboflavin is B2.

You should get more than enough if you have a healthy balanced diet.
    Thiamin (vitamin B1)

Thiamin is also known as vitamin B1. It has several important functions, including:

working with other B-group vitamins to help break down and release energy from food
    keeping the nervous system healthy

    Good sources of thiamin

Thiamin is found in most types of food. Good sources include:

    vegetables – such as peas
    fresh and dried fruit
    eggs
    wholegrain breads
    some fortified breakfast cereals
    liver

How much thiamin do I need?

The amount of thiamin you need is:

    1mg a day for men
    0.8mg a day for women

You should be able to get all the thiamin you need from your daily diet.
Thiamin cannot be stored in the body, so you need it in your diet every day.

    More is not always better.

Lots of B2 (I'm told to take a bunch by my neurologist as part of a vitamin cocktail as part of my migraine treatment protocol) will turn your pee very, very yellow.

    That's all I've got.
