Extra skin woes

Okay people.... does anyone have any tips on what to do for all the excess skin that is sagging after losing weight? Not sure if it will eventually take care of itself through exercise or if there is a tried and true method to help reduce the amount without having surgery to remove it. I won a free "Body Wrap" and I'm going to try that, but not sure if it will be a permanent fix. Does coconut oil or anything like that help the skin tighten up? Thanks in advance!

  • I've heard cocoa butter or shea butter helps soften skin and improve elasticity, but I'm not sure how effective it is for tightening loose skin from weight loss. There are a few creams on the market that promise to solve the problem, but I'm skeptical. They're always worth a try, though! I'd rather pay $15-$20 for a tube of lotion or cream and not have it work than shell out thousands for a surgery that may not be permanent either!! Let me know if you hear of any other ideas!!

I have some loose saggy skin and nothing really has made it tighten up much

just put some lotion or whatever oil you want and hope for the best

Exercise and genetics might help, but the unfortunate truth is that there really isn't any other kind of good fix except for surgery. Like others have said, you can try coconut oil, it's good for skin in general, but I don't know about how much it will help with loose skin. All I've ever heard is that it's supposed to help prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. Good luck though.

It depends on a few things...how much loose skin, how much you lost, how fast you lost it, if you have yo-yo dieted.
I have lost 35 pounds so far in 6 months and have been neurotic about my skin. I find I have been experiencing a cycle where it will look really scary for 6-8 weeks and then kind of smooth out for 6-8 weeks. I work for a skincare company and am very familiar with ingredients/products. My advice would be:
    -Drink lots of water.
-Avoid tanning. UV rays break down collagen and elastin.
    -Exercise.
-Get a coarse body brush and dry brush your body at least 3 times a week.
-Invest is GOOD skincare. Most of the mass market stuff you find in drugstores, like Jergens, Vaseline, etc. is not concentrated enough to do much of anything. EXCEPT Palmer's Cocoa Butter products are helpful minimizing stretch marks and are cheap.
-One of the BEST things for correcting our skin is retinol. Find a body cream with a retinol. I tried Dr. Graf and it was OK. I am going to try Paula's Choice Retinol body serum.
-Emu oil. Yep...emu oil. An aesthetician friend swears by it. I have been using it a week and love it. I bought Thunder Ridge from Amazon. My friend says it is the best.
-Look into Planet Fitness to use the Angel Beauty booth. It is an infrared system.
Infrared helps stimulate collagen production in the skin.
It can take a year for skin to adjust.
