Hello!
I just joined yesterday and I absolutely LOVE this web site! I had used another fitness/nutritional site but it was way too time consuming as everything had to be entered in manually to get started. I love how comprehensive and user friendly this site is.
My story is as follows. I am 34 years old and have been overweight my ENTIRE life. I was a chubby kid and it ballooned from there. I have worked in environments where I am stuck in a cubicle, in front of a computer all day and I am (I admit I still struggle with) emotional/stress eating. I have always tried to be active and have always liked working out. I just was never consistent for prolonged periods of time. I tried every diet, every program I could get my hands on. Nothing ever stuck. I would lose some weight but gain it all back, plus interest. I knew the older I got, the harder it would be to get healthy for good.
In November 2007, I joined a gym that I actually felt comfortable going to. I signed up with a personal trainer and began one a week weight training sessions (in addition to 4-5 days of cardio). In January of 2008 I had lap band surgery. My all time high (my absolute lowest point in my life) I topped the scales at 265 lbs and wore size 24/26(and I'm barely 5'2"!). I started to see small results following the surgery. But once I was able to start working out again with my trainer, I saw more results. I was determined to lose 100 lbs by the time my 1 year anniversary of my weight loss hit.
And I made it. However, the next year or so would prove very discouraging. I had plateaued for several months, I had yo yo-ed back and forth by 10-20 lbs. I became very depressed and bitter and frustrated and ran the gamut of emotions. Now mind you, I am aware of the accomplishments I did hit. 100 lbs gone in a year was a great deal for me. I am wearing size 10 (sometimes 12,depending on the cut) and no longer have to shop in the big girl stores. It was nice not searching through sizes trying to find the biggest size there is.
Since February, I have lost 18.6 lbs (now I can still say "I 've lost 100 lbs and kept it off!") and feel like I have found my way. It's been slow and steady and there has been a lot of trial and error. A lot of adjustments have been made (jogging outside a couple times a week is good for the body and mind and soul), some experiments with diet and exercise. It's still a work in progress but with this site and all it's tools, I feel much better and more confidant that I CAN and WILL reach my goals.
I welcome any suggestions, ideas, feedback. I look forward to being a part of this community.
