Full body or split routine for weight loss?

I have been doing some research and see a little bit of both. What has worked best for you guys, and what do you prefer? I am a basically a beginner at the gym and I am looking to use more machines than just the elliptical which is my default (because I don't know what to do).

Fat loss comes from what and how much you eat.
If you’re going to lift weights, you should have an additional goal in mind (i.e., strength, retain/maintain muscle mass). In either case, I’d recommend a full body, compound movement program (free weights). Look up New Rules of Lifting for Women or strong lifts. Both of these are good programs and well suited for beginners. If you’re concerned about form (which is important), hire a personal trainer to teach you the movements.

Here's a good beginners full-body workout using 11 of the common weight machines you'll see around the gym. It was a good foray into the weight section for me.

Full body is my vote. Good luck!

Ah thanks alpine, I have been looking around for something to kind of guide me, I appreciate it! I fully plan on throwing cardio in there too. I am thinking probably 3 days strength and 2 or 3 cardio. I honestly don't know..haha0 -

In general, beginners do best on full body routines, typically 3 days a week. Beginners improve very fast, and full body programs let you progress the fastest. Splits are usually for intermediate or advanced programs, where more complex programming is often necessary.
Splits are also helpful for people who can't spend enough time in the gym to get through a full body program. But if you're just starting out and have the time, do a full body program.0 -
I'm voting for a full-body routine, prioritizing compound exercises, using mostly freeweights. You've probably read explanations why, since you've been doing research.. but if you want to hear why, just ask..0
