Tips for Las Vegas

Hey gang. It is my husband and my 10th wedding anniversary next weekend...wow! Haha. We are going to Las Vegas. My first time. We are big foodies, and my husband is a food writer. Many of the restaurants are having us come and host us so he can write about the food.....in other words....they are going to kill us with cuisine. I already have a hard time keeping it in check on vacation...although I have gotten better!
Any suggestions or advice from people who have gone? I don't want to obsess over food the whole time, but I'd rather not come home 10 pounds heavier (which has happened before...took me ages to lose it)
Thanks!

You will walk so much you won't even notice! We also hiked Red Rock Canyon which is gorgeous and there are miles and miles of trails.0

My husband and I went a few years back and honestly I can say I didn't gain anything, we did so much walking up and down the strip(there is so much to see and do) that I was constantly burning! You will be fine, enjoy yourself and remember what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!!0

Yes, try and avoid the buffets because they are ripe opportunities for binge eating. Think and plan your meals ahead of time and just enjoy your anniversary trip. :bigsmile:0
-
Sounds like fun! Yes, there is a lot of walking to do. If you do buffets, just get smaller portions of things. Just try to do everything in moderation.0
-
go exercise daily. enjoy the food. you don't need to finish everything on your plate, especially since it's all free.0
-
Since you say they will want to wow you..give them any dietery needs you want...and tell them to create for you! I am a waitress have been for 20 years.{ Lived in Vegas area so spent a lot of time there}. You won't be there long enough to gain 10 lbs...But the chefs do know how to sneak in a ton of calories in things! YUM0

All the hotels on the strip are 5 star so should have a gym. The place is massive so unless you use the cabs or monorail you will burn stuff walking, we were walking round the casino malls until 3am!0

i went to vegas for my honeymoon, only put on 1lb....!
we had a massive buffet breakfast (gift from the hotel) and then because it was so hot we didnt need more than an ice cream before an evening meal, plus we waLked and walked and walked up and down the stirp and round the hotels/casinos
go to the grand canyon its effing AMAZING0 -
I just got back from there! I thought I'd come home to a huge gain since I ate like a prisoner on death row while I was out there haha Turned out I didn't gain anything! I know its because of all the walking.
So don't even worry about it, and just have fun! :drinker:0 -
Every hotel has a gym, check them out.
New machines ect .that can be fun too!0 -
Good!! I'm hoping for lots of walking. We are staying at the Cosmopolitan and they even have fitness classes....granted if I'm sleeping til 10am...LOL! We are going to Mt. Zion for a massive day hike one day...we will probably undo it at dinner time...but it can't hurt. LOL! We are going to ONE buffet. Bechamel I think it's called? It is a recipe for binging and I'm pretty sure I will leave in massive pain.0

We go at least once per year. I do my usual light two meals, normal dinner/drinks (avoiding the BIG sugary frozen cocktails for sure and sticking to club soda + vodka.)
Most places have something healthy to choose from and will substitute if you ask nicely! We never eat at buffets.
Walking walking walking The Strip burns plenty of calories! We walk absolutely everywhere, and if your hotel has a gym, getting a 30 minute treadmill walk or bike ride in is a nice way to get into a deficit before you even start your day.
Enjoy it! I'm jealous...haven't been since February 2012 and I miss it!!0 -
that and tell them you would prefer to sample, RATHER than full portions.
WALK WALK WALK
avoid the booze... thats the biggest thing , my hubby says to everyone he wishes he hadn't drank and gambled so much
.. but since he was in a tournament, it was hard to resist the booze..
i had a BRILLIANT time, i walked the malls, walked the strip , collected a full deck of hooker cards for my then 16 yo son, and yes planning on going next year as my reward for weight loss..0 -
My husband and I were just there a month ago for our 13th wedding anniversary. We were always walking looking at everything, so you will definantly burn some calories doing that. We actually bought food once we got there, so we weren't always eating out. I did gain about 2 lbs once we got back, but I lost it pretty quickly. Just plan things accordingly and you should be fine. Have fun and Happy Anniversary to you both0

I think key for me will be sticking to not drinking cocktails. I'm very carb sensitive...and alcohol makes me gain like CRAZY. I don't know why. diet coke and rum may have to be my staple. Any other low carb drinks ya'll like? I don't like drinks with tonic...because they taste like alcohol.:laugh:0

Don't lose Doug.0

Like the others say...you'll be doing a lot of walking! Very true! If you want to work on your quads and gluteus maximus..Pick up the little "advertisement cards" of "escort services" and such that they hand out and thrown on the side walks. he he.
I'm sure you will be fine..Enjoy your 10 yr anniversary. And btw, "Happy Anniversary!" :drinker:0 -
I've been to Vegas 3 times, and I eat like a pig every single time. I've never come back with any weight gain. Like others have said, you do so much walking around! If it would help ease your mind, maybe do a short workout in the hotel's gym each morning before you start your day.
Have fun! :drinker:0 -
Ha! I just came back. I was up 5 pounds my first day back, now, on my second day back I'm only up 2 pounds. Between all the alcohol, food and travelling, I was (still am a little) pretty bloated. Just make sure you stay active during the day, save your calories for dinner by bringing packets of oatmeal for breakfast and having a small (but filling) lunch. Bring a water bottle and fill it up often too. The weather is so dry and hot that it's easy to get dehydrated. I'm hoping to have only gained a pound or less. We'll see where I'm at after another day of chugging water back at home! ;-)0

What happens in Vegas... Stays in Vegas. : )0

Two words: Bouchon. Bakery. You're welcome.0

I was just there a couple months ago and also stayed at the Cosmopolitan. The place is fantastic. Enjoy and good luck !! Like everyone else has said, you will do plenty of walking. I'd suggest going downtown to old vegas also. The casinos are a lot closer together down there and a beer won't cost you $7 like it will on the strip.0

Don't use the buffets as an excuse to overeat.
Walking the strip will burn tons of calories.
Don't forget about the hotel gym
Drink but don't go overboard with it
If you like clubs, dancing will burn lots of calories.
Have Fun!0 -
I don't like how my whole GI system feels with a whole lot of meals out and I was also on basically a college kid budget so I stopped by the CVS on the strip and picked up some easy snacks like some fruit, cheese sticks and milk to mix with protein powder to have with me. Always did eggs, bacon and some fruit for breakfast. Usually one meal per day was something special, a splurge. Drinks for me were typically vodka sodas so that wasn't a lot of liquid cals there either.
Enjoy yourself though! One special occasion isn't going to negate your progress Have a good anniversary!0 -
I just came back from 4 days in Vegas. I made use of the Exercise room each morning and rode the stationary bike 52 min each morning, swam and walked a lot on the strip. We also stayed at a place that had a full kitchen so even though they provided a full breakfast, I usually made my own (low cal) breakfast and lunch was usually something light and low cal as well. Also, since its hot, drink lots of water and that will help. I splurged on dinners a few times and came back to a 1.5 lb weight loss for the week.0

I live in Las Vegas- I think the dining here is amazing too much to pick from- Good Luck Exercise is the only thing that will save you!
Happy Anniversary!0
