Fitbit question

Is it possible to turn off the step counter? I wanted to track calories burned while horseback riding but Fitbit charge hr counts the steps my horse takes making my step count ridiculously high. I wanted to only use the heart rate monitor and track calories that way. Is this possible or would I have to buy a new HR monitor?

Fitbit is so inaccurate... I try to think of it more as an activity monitor than a pedometer. Riding a horse is work. Killer thigh muscles required! I wouldn't worry about it too much.0

And core muscles. I love when people who've never really ridden (or just sit in a western saddle and trail ride on a dead broke horse) try and discount is from being a decent workout.0

Take it off when you're horse riding, simple!0

Sadly that's what I'll have to do. Was just really curious of the calories burned when riding.0

Can only answer part of your question, and maybe not that. For the Fitbit One (what I have) I can 'log' driving at Fitbit.com dashboard and it will take out those steps. Assume it will work the same for other models but cannot confirm.
Then thru MFP log Horseback Riding. NOT sure about any HRM details.0 -
I always took mine off for riding. It would give me far too many steps and far too many flights of stairs. I then Manually entered my riding.0

I remember reading once that you can use an external ap to turn it on and off (important for people who commute on bumpy roads- I guess they have problems getting credited for steps while driving) but I didn't pay enough attention to remember the details. There is a fitbit users group that would probably know.
As an aside, I once forgot to take mine off while mowing my lawn with the rider. It gave me like 30k steps in 10 minutes. Its a good thing that it doesn't connect to the emergency services. I think they'd have thought I was going to die, lol.0
