Okay, so, i had about 100 cal for the rest of the day, so i decided to have 1/3 of a cup of seed and nut mix, with a little bit of dried fruit, but it was mostly seed, as everyone in my family goes for the fruit and nut first.
Anyway, i logged it in and it said it was almost 500 calories and i almost died!
Does the calorie count sound right for that!?!?!?!

No it sounds high. I cup of seeds are about 700 calories and if some of that displacement in that 1/3 cup are dried fruit and mixed nuts I would doubt the calories are that high. I would also suggest that any food data base that is self generated, not to be taken too seriously as far as accuracy is concerned. Trying using one like this. http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list#0

I don't know dried fruit can be pretty high in calories.
I had 50g of dried apricots and that was 120 calories. Add that to the seed and nut then its a good probability.0 -

Invest $20 in a digital food scale and prepare to be amazed at the inaccuracy of measuring portions using cups, spoons, etc. Always go by weight if possible. WalMart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc all have scales for around $20.0

Seeds are pure fat, just like nuts. Very healthy fat, but fat nonetheless.
I usually measure out two ounce bags of mixed nuts to bring to work as a snack. Two ounces is usually about 350 calories. For me (6'3 with fairly big hands) it's a little more than a handful.0
