Depressed and sleepy after workout

I know this sounds crazy, but here lately I've been hitting the trail for 8 miles a day and afterwards, I feel sad and little depressed. I almost want to cry-WTF??? I'm never hungry or thirsty but I know that I must replenish so I drink a couple bottles of water and eat something. Right afterwards, I feel by stomach burning the food right away and during that time, I get really sleepy as my energy is zapped. What is going on? I do eat a little snack prior to my workout and drink a couple bottles of water.

Sounds to me like you are dealing with hypoglycemia. Stay nourished, and consult a dietician for the best way to stay fueled for the whole day, including your trail work. Also if you are on an 8 mile trail walk/run, take food and water with you and replenish along the way.0

Have you checked your blood sugar before and after your runs?0

You know, I agree after research. But- everytime I've gone to the doctor and they do bloodwork, there is no evidence. I even went a bought a moniter to check my blood sugar when I start feeling weird and it's always in normal range. I even bought another one just in case it wasn't working properly and it was the same. Now I'm left scratching my head. This doesn't happen all the time. I'll be fine for about three months and then it'll start again lasting for a couple weeks.

Not actually before and after, but I will do that tomorrow.0 -
You're not alone. I've been experiencing the same thing. A few things I've read have pointing to being fatigued. I'm still looking for an answer.0

Are you running 8 miles+ every day?? If so, that's an awful lot to put your body through daily. You may be showing signs of overtraining. Make sure you have AT LEAST one rest day per week. And I would scale back running that far to 1-3x per week. The other days you can run shorter distances (throw in speed work, intervals etc.) or even a different form of exercise as well- strength training is important as is stretching.0

Are you taking rest days or are you doing 8 miles every day? Is that running or walking?0

This +1
You need to recognise the difference between being tired because youve had a good workout and tired because you are overdoing it.
You might be lethargic because you arent fueling them properly.
Interesting about feeling depressed as it tends to be stress relieving and mood lifting.
See if this rings any bells for you.

Take a weeks rest, increase carbs & start again but maybe reduce activity levels!

Welcome to the world of frying your nervous system. Take some rest then plan more rest into your week.0

when i push myself very hard, I get that. take it back a couple of notches and it should help the depressed feelings. I always feel sleepy after i work out though.0

You may want to see your doctor and get checked for iron deficiency and/or thyroid issues.0
