Where the calories come from....

Hi all! I'm 24 and I'm looking to lose about 15lbs. Just started and lost 2 lbs on my first week.
I have been trying to eat moderate low carb - meaning I do eat some carbs, but when I do I choose filling variants/high fiber. I try to work guilty pleasures in (cheese and wine) so that I don't burst and go crazy.
Thing is, according to my diary I am very high in fat. I go over every day, and sometimes quite a bit. I take two big tablespoons of cod liver oil each morning. I like to eat fiber crackers with eggs and light mayo. Some of the fat also comes from red meats, cheese and butter, though in smaller amounts.
Regarding weight loss - is it only the calorie total that matters? Not where it comes from?
Eating 1500 to 1700 calories a day, is it possible I still eat so much fat that it is dangerous cholesterol-wise (or otherwise)?

Weight loss is purely calories in/calories out. Be sure to hit your protein goals and get adequate nutrition to fuel your workouts and don't worry about fat (or carbs for that matter, unless you have a medical reason to restrict them).0

When you lower carbs, you have to increase protein or fat so it is logical that you are eating fats and oils.
Change your settings if you want so that the diary is "cooperating" with you.0 -
I'm impressed that you can swallow cod liver oil. The smell alone makes makes me want to vomit.0

CICO is what matters. In fact, many people treat their fat/protein/fiber goals as minimums.0

It's about calories.
I often go over fat by a decent amount and I'm losing steadily.0 -
I'm new to this so no expert by any means but isn't two tablespoons of cod liver oil a day excessive.. By my reckoning it's about 240 calories worth. most people just take a small capsule which is probably no bigger than one teaspoon.
That fat must be about 27g of fat. My daily total is only 40 although yours may be higher. Cholesterol must be quite high too.
I would consider getting advice on how much is good for you. It may be that a small amount is as good as a larger amount. This would definitely help your fat consumption.0 -
