What does joining a group provide or are they more like an ongoing discussion thread?

I would think in a random discussion thread it would be easy for questions to be overlooked and could become confusing if multiple conversations start going (more so when people don't use quotes).
Groups allow for the creation of multiple threads. An example, in a group for say Hypothyroidism you might find threads discussing different medications and maybe a some different diet plans that seem to work better with the condition. It would also be a great area for a person with the condition to go to for advice (not saying they can't ask in the normal forums, but it would be an easier way to get help from people dealing with the same thing).
In challenges, you will often find weekly weigh in threads and advice threads.

They provide specified support, like all with similar weight to lose, fitness goals, diet regimes, or come together over culture, interests, gender, location, etc...
Some nice things I find about groups is that there is less "trolling" and more genuine replies, and that the people in the group have something in common.0 -
Thank you for the replies.0
