Exercise with Bursitis

I was wondering if anyone out there had work out tips for someone with physical limitations. I am hoping to tone my arms, but I have pretty severe bursitis in one shoulder that makes it impossible to support any weight with my left arm when it is above my head or perpendicular to my chest (for example, push ups are a no go).

I have just started a diet and exercise program this week, so I am hoping that losing some weight will help, but until then, does any one have any ideas on some exercises that I could possibly do? I'm a 25 year old female who needs to start off pretty slow. I'm just at a loss of what to do. Any help or ideas you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Have you seen a doctor for your bursitis? I was dealing with something similar. Saw an osteopath, helped a little, did some acupuncture, helped a little, but finally saw an orthopedic specialist who gave me a more accurate diagnosis and a shot of cortisone. You shouldn't have to live in pain!
I've been focusing on just running/walking/jogging, some elliptical, basically lower body and anything cardio. Any activity is good activity! Hoping for some relief and being able to add in upper body soon!
