I want to run but I can't more then one minute on the treadmill. It also makes my shins hurt? If that's what they are called. Any tips? I can do 6.0 but I can go longer at 5.0,.

A whole bunch of things..... I've only been running for 7 months and can finally get to 5 miles. Regardless, this is just my view and what has helped me.
-First and foremost check out all the info here - http://www.runnersworld.com/training/getting-started
- 6.0 is way too fast - I'd back it way down to 4.7 - 5.0 for starters.
- Shins will kill on a treadmill if you don't put it on a 1-2% incline (preferably 2%)
- Proper footwear & proper technique are very important for long term success.
Prerun & post run stretching and foam rolling are critical (for me anyways).
Others will chime in that can contribute way more than I. These are just my initial thoughts.
