Hello MFP users,

So I didn't know the exact answer so I need your help.
My friend feels as if the cold/sickness she has right now is causing water retention.
Her eating habits are the same...
She has been working out the same...
However, ever since she got sick with the flu, she said her weight has been the same if not heavier.
Anyone know?
I never had this problem so I don't know what to tell her.

First of all cold and flu are not the same. They are two different illnesses.

Second- is it possible her body is retaining water to heal itself? yes, but is she taking any medication for the illness? If so, that may be the cause of the water retention.

Third- Working out while ill at the same intensity is a disaster waiting to happen. You need more energy for your body to heal.

Some people increase their calories when they are sick as eating at maintenance can help the body heal.
