Applebee's Entrées Under 550 Calories

Creamy Parmesan Chicken with steamed spinach and mushroom rice pilaf, or Roasted Garlic Sirloin with sautéed onions, herbed potatoes, and a creamed spinach-filled portobello mushroom cap; can anyone attest to the ordering-worthiness of these 460-calorie dishes?

I'm making Applebee's dinner plans for tonight, and as much as I want to sink my teeth into their Bourbon Black & Bleu Burger (1,290 cal.) with an order of fries (440 cal.; 1,730 cal. combined), while pregnant it is harder to wrap my mind around this amount of splurging in a single sitting, especially considering I have no plans to severely "save my calories" until the dinner hour — in my current position my blood sugar would disapprove of this even more than my metabolism. ;p

Suggestions? Stick with a sensible dish and risk turning a rare dinner out into a bland, underwhelming experience? Go with my cravings and order the burger, but ditch the bun and eat half the fries? (Is anyone aware of the adjusted calorie total were I to eliminate the bun, or consume only half the bun? Applebees.com needs a meal builder app...)

I think I've had all the Applebees under 500 entrees. The roasted garlic sirloin is my favorite. They're all pretty good though.

i had the chicken portabello dish recently, it was disgusting, charred, tasteless yet salty, and had only the tiniest sliver of portobello to be found.

but perhaps that was the particular Applebees I went to?

I've had a few of them--the Napa chicken, garlic sirloin, and sirloin with shrimp. They were all good--I think I liked the sirloin with shrimp the most. They're great for lunch, but rather low-cal for dinner, so if I go for dinner I'll add a bowl of soup to bring the total up a bit.

Their Jalapeno Lime Shrimp is delicious, and around 350 calories even with the rice. All their Under 550 dishes are great-- Applebee's is one of my favorite restaurants. I know I can always get something delicious that fits into my calorie needs.
  • The ones with shrimp and rice are good. Nice portion size as well

They're good for the calorie count. I've been known to order more than one.

i cannot specifically attest to their 550 calorie menu, but I have had shrimp prepared multiple ways from there and was pleased. It looks like others like their shrimp too. The last time we went, I tried one of my daughter's fries and thought it was just way too salty.

I would like to highly recommend the cooked spinach w red peppers. Mine was served with spinach, red peppers, and cooked tomatoes. It was fantastic and I would gladly select that over their french fries.

AHH! Eating out! At least it's a chain so they have their calories worked out for you.

If it was me, I would eat what I want to eat. Maybe I'd skip the fries. One splurge on your RARE night eating out isn't going to do you in. Plus the burger pencils if you're trying to get your protein dialed for the day.

I like the sirloin and shrimp-the tomato/almond stuff they put on top is yummy. I usually get it with rice pilaf and steamed broccoli, and I am full when I'm done.

  • The jalapeno lime shrimp is very low, and some of the best food ever. I LOVE it... definitely worth ordering.

If I'm going to go out to eat and spend the money, I'm going to eat/order what I want. However, I try to be mindful and slow in my consumption - drink lots of water, eat slowly and listen to myself when I'm full. Typically this means I end up taking half of the meal home and either eating it for lunch the next day or letting my kids go at it.

I really enjoy the Zesty Roma Chicken and Shrimp (410 calories) but OMG, the sodium just kills me so I can only have it once in a very great while. Frustrates me that these restaurants put out all these "healthy meal" options but provide major overkill in the sodium department.
