Leslie Sansone walking DVD's--->any success?

Hi pals,
For the past 4 weeks, I have been struggling with a back injury that I got while doing pelvic twist planks:( I visited the back specialist this week and was told to stop all exercises that involve twisting, bending, or flexing of my lower back. This pretty much took away everything that I have been doing up to this point. My primary source of exercise has been Turbo Jam and Zumba, but now my doctor is only allowing walking for the next two weeks. I bought the Leslie Sansone 5 Day walk plan and tried it out last night. I really liked it because, unlike my turbo jam and zumba, it did not hurt my back, but it still gave me a decent calorie burn.
I am looking for other walkers at this time because I can't believe that I will lose from just walking so I need to see some results or here some stories to help me through this tough time. If you have had success with this DVD series or if you have had success with walking alone, PLEASE share your story... I tend to feel like I need a high impact workout to see results so I am trying to wrap my head around these low impact walks.
Thanks in advance and please add me if you think we can support each other through our journeys:)

I absolutely love them!! If it hadn't been for her DVD's, I may have never started to exercise. Great for beginners!! The workouts are low impact and simple, but effective. You can start with the 20 minute workout and work your way up to the hour long ones.0

There is a Leslie Sansone group - join us! This specific topic is in there. 50 pounds lost doing Leslie (although I do other stuff now, too). Plus keeping up with your healthy eating habits. You can do it!0

The 18lbs I have lost to date has been with walking as my only exercise.0

I never do high impact workouts, I watch my calories and walk, most of the walking is done with LS walking dvd's (normally her 2mile or 5 mile ones off of youtube) and then walking around the dog park while my dogs play. I'm down 36.5 pounds after 12 weeks.0

I actually just started using her dvd on Wednesday..I love it! I did the 1 mile one since I am a beginner and was out of breath just doing it but it felt good, my back didn't hurt. So that is what I have been using for my cardio. I actually have the Express one as well as the 5 mile one.0

-
Good for you!!! I started yesterday with the 3 mile but since I am in week 6 of my journey I was ready for more! I have been doing a lot of high impact work outs so I felt like I wasn't working hard enough...But I have to say, my HRM stayed in zone the entire workout:)0

This is awesome!!!0

i love her videos!!!
also, my mom lost a TON of weight by eating healthy and doing these videos!0 -
Never heard of walking dvd's!0

I lost my 1st 40lbs with Leslie Sansone. It was something i enjoyed, was slightly challenged and saw results. Oh yeah and it was easy! I didn't feel like i was constantly trying to catch up.0

My mom bought m the LS walking video about a year ago...I guess I wasn't ready to start then. Now that I am on track I was thinking I should check it out. Do you just walk in place, or what? I guess I'll just pop it in & see what it's all about! I'll check back in after...0

I have heard of the LS walking DVDs but ... um in all honestly why do you need a DVD? Why don't you just go outside and walk down the street to a park and walk there? or find a trail to walk. Is there something special about the DVD?
not trying to be a **** but I just don't see why you NEED a DVD for walking.0 -
I have quite a few of her tapes. They are a lot of fun and not too stressful. Since I have a bad knee and am working to gain strength, walking tapes are great. You do kicks, side steps, arm movements, etc... so you aren't just standing in one place. I highly recommend Leslie Sansone tapes!0

Never heard of walking dvd's!
These are basically low impact - no choreography aerobics DVDs ....They go like this ....... you walk in place (for awhile) .... you do side steps (for awhile) .... you do knee lifts (for awhile) ...etc. After the warm-up you add some arm movements. Here's a sample:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjduJjO1pLg&feature=related
These are great because they are so adaptable. Add some light handweights, add a weighted vest, throw in some plyo (high impact) moves .....ie: jog when Leslie walks. Add a mini-trampoline & do all "high impact" .... but in a low impact way.
These can be beginner .... thru intermediate (with modifications)...... Not advanced though.
These DVDs are excuse proof ..... I can do them anytime, and (almost) anywhere.0 -
The LS DVD's are great! You can put as much effort into them as you feel like, so they can be a really good workout. Be careful with your form on the kicks, I have had a sore back after doing the dvd a couple times. As long as I don't kick too high I'm ok. My cousin lost 70 pounds doing nothing but LS videos, so YOU CAN DO IT!!0

YES - the DVDs are special (to me) ..... I'm a klutz ..... I can't do "regular" aerobics videos..... I've tried ... I just feel like a dunce.
These are a nice change of pace (from walking outside) ......it's not just walking in place ..... knee lifts, kicks, kick backs..... arm movements (with weights) ...... It's not better .... just different. I like both.
They are also ..... excuse proof ..... I live in the midwest ..... it's too cold, it's snowing, it's raining, it's dark outside (my neighborhood is crappy).... whatever .....NO EXCUSES left.0 -
I loved them! I used them after I had my gallbladder surgery a few weeks ago and was told I couldn't lift weights or workout so I used the youtube videos of her 3 mile and 4 mile so atleast I felt like I was doing something! She's got an awesome personality and I found myself actually breaking into a sweat, which really surprised me!0

Will do!!0

For me, I have to work out either really early in the mornings or really late in the evenings. I am at work most of the day and then when I get home, I have to tend to my family. Some days I take my son outside and I will walk with him, but there are days when it's too dark or raining, etc. I felt the same way, why would I buy a walking DVD? I saw a lot of my pals using it so I decided to try one, for 9 bucks it was a win-win.
I will be walking outside more for the next two weeks, but I like having the option to use this DVD indoors as well:)0 -

Not only is Leslie walking and motivating you to as well by sharing tips and advice, she incorporates strength training in some with bands or weights, she does things like knee lifts, kicks and grapevines. I really enjoyed walking and beginning to jog in the privacy of my own home. I'm not too self-conscious, but I was insecure about all of my wiggles and jiggles when I started.0 -
I absolutely love Leslie DVDs. I began working out with these over three years ago and have lost 60 pounds. My first 20 were exclusively her DVDs. I went from walking to jogging. Now I'm doing high impact workouts, but still prefer DVDs. I have a young child and don't want to leave my home so DVD are my preferred method. My favorite DVD is her walk weight loss boot camp. She incorporates strength training and it feels great to pick up the pace and be able to do it with a trainer you enjoy...even if it is only a DVD.
I'm sorry to hear of your injury. But keep it up, the walking DOES work! And isn't it fun!!!!!!!!!!!:bigsmile:0 -

They are fabulous! Some are better for beginners while others are better for more advanced exercisers. There really is something for everyone in her fitness collection. Although I do a variety of work out now 6-7 days a week, her workouts were my mainstay for many months and what helped me become addicted to working out (and helped me gain energy and lose 50+ lbs). I now give them to friends as gifts :-)0

The workouts are decent for something low-impact, but I find Leslie Sansone to be incredibly annoying. I do the workouts every once in a while (I used to do them more often a couple years ago), but now I just kind of tune her out or turn down the volume.0

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! SHE TALKS A LOT:grumble: BUT I CAN BLOCK THAT OUT BY STAYING FOCUSED ON WHAT I'M :glasses: DOING! WHILE SHE TALKING SHE STILL EXERCISE AND KEEPS YOU GOING,. I DO THE 5 MILE ADVANCE WALK WITH WEIGHTS 7 DAYS A WEEK NOW AND MY FAMILY NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE WHEN I WALKED IN THE HOUSE FOR OUR MORNING COFFEE :drinker: AND TALK BEFORE I GO TO MY OFFICE. SO I CAN HONESTLY SAY YOU BURN 550 TO 833 CALORIES DEPENDING ON YOUR EFFORT AND SPEED YOU GO, OR IF YOU STAY WHERE SHE IS ON THE VIDEO! (YES I'M TYPING IN CAPS) BECAUSE I'M SUPER EXCITED:bigsmile: ABOUT HOW EASY I PULLED MY JEANS UP THIS MORNING, THIS LADY LESLIE SANSONE IS SO AWESOME AND YOU ARE TOO, ADD THIS TO YOUR WORKOUT!! I STARTED AT 256.2 and now I'm 238.5! I HAVE 39.5 LBS TO LOSE TIL I REACH MY GOAL TO GET UNDER 200 LBS, EVEN IF ITS ONLY 199 I JUST WANT TO BE IN THE 100'S!0

I incorporate WATP in my weekly workouts as well. Although she doesn't emit that "hard core" vibe, her workouts do get you sweating, especially if you tighten your abs and keep good form during the knee lifts, kicks, and squats.
The cueing is so easy to follow, and it matters not at all if you don't follow the steps exactly, so I do them with the volume muted and while listening to music.
Take good care of your back. Best wishes for a healthy recovery.0 -

You don't *need* one, but I find that without following along on the DVD I do not keep up the pace by myself. I walk outside I stroll along and look at the houses and the flowers and the birds and the trees and the pets, etc etc. I will not get the same kind of workout on my own that I do with the DVD keeping me on task. ALSO, when it is too hot or too cold outside it won't derail my workout because I'm in my temperature controlled house.0 -

Why do you need a treadmill for running?
Why do you need a stationary bike for biking?
Why do you need a weight set for strength training? Surely you can go outside and find some big rocks to lug around?
I like Leslie Sansone DVDs because using them I have NO EXCUSES. All I have to do is turn it on. Any time of day or night. Indoors so weather is a non-issue. I don't even have to put on shoes! Or clothes for that matter. There are times I literally roll out of bed and start up my Leslie DVD. Plus, she is inspirational and fun, she feels like my own personal walking buddy. She seems like a very kind and uplifting person and I always feel good after my Leslie walks. Her positivity is amazing!0
