Men can build approx half a pound of muscle a week (without steroids, with a clean amount of excess calories, adequate protein and three full body progressive lifting sessions per week).
The rest of the weight is fat, water, glycogen and food and waste build up in the gut.
Try and get organised and do it properly! You want your cut at the end if your bulk to be as quick and painless as possible.0 -
I suggest keeping record of your body fat, and also tracking your measurements. That's the only way to tell if you are gaining fat, or muscle. If you are bulking there is no way to avoid gaining fat, it's just a question of how much. If you've gained 18 pounds that fast I am sure the majority of it is fat and only a few pounds is muscle. if that's the case you should cut back your calorie intake.0
